Pentiums cannibalizing i3 sales - Guess what intel does!!

Prysin

Not available on Amazon. Worth 107 USD on Newegg. Intel's latest pentiums was my favorite thing about them. I may upgrade from my i5 to Ryzen 3.

hahaha you need to think more like intel..

G4690X on X299 platform and it only enables 2 ram slots, 1 PCIe and 2 Sata ports because Fu thats why.

Hopefully, they bump up the i3 to a quad-core sans HT and the i5 to quad-core with HT with the i7's being hexa-cores sans HT.

There are programs where the i3-7100 gets a lead on the G4560, but the extra $50 doesn't warrant the added performance of ~10-15%. I'm just hoping that we'll start seeing more powerful hexa-cores on the mainstream consumer side of things since I'm not likely to buy a quad-core with HT if a higher core count part is available.

AFAIK next mainstream i7 should have 6C/12T which would make the i5 a 6C/6T CPU. Wondering whether i3s will be 4/4 too.

Brilliant move Intel, absolutely brilliant.

I applaud you

dhMeAzK.gif

I mean who doesn't want to spend over 100$ for a processor that is dual core and lately has hyper-threading? Oh that's right nobody, because your i3 series of processors makes no sense. This is 2017 not 2005.

Stop asking over 100$ for what is essentially a 2005 product. Yeah, yeah, yeah the performance it's better, but it's still a fucking dual core.

Edit. Added Info:

"Allegedly, Intel is planning to limit the production of the Pentium G4560 to artificially increase its price and boost the sales of the expensive Core i3 model."

Take from the digiworthy website the original source.

From what I read, i7's will be 6P/6L with 4P/8L being i5's, 4P/4L being i3's, and Pentiums being 2P/4L. This would leave higher core counts in the enthusiast realm of expenditure computing needs.

Benchmarks showed that an i5-7600K stock (4P/4L) matched R5-1600 (6P/12L) in most games and programs except where heavy 4K video editing or rendering was involved. Intel must be more confident in their lower core-count, higher performance method versus just giving more cores.

Unless you're making a jab at me using P/L rather than C/T.

There is still the G4600 and G4620.

Still, the G4560 was a lot cheaper at $64 MSRP.

They were already so hard to keep in stock that I went with a G4600 in a recent gift build I did for a friend. Just counting my lucky stars that I managed to get a 6GB 1060 for him before the market went nuts as well.

It's a terrible time to custom build right now. Most of the other cost increases are outside of manufacturer control like miners, DRAM shortages, and NAND shortages. If this is true, I think it's crazy that Intel are intentionally creating a shortage on entry-level CPUs to pad their bottom line... especially in the face of a looming Ryzen 3 launch.

Honestly, this stuff right here is why I recommend people buy cheap prebuilts on eBay and Craigslist and stuff that have at least Core i5s and 8GB of RAM (you can find them for less than $200) and spend all the money in the GPU.

It seems to be the cheaper option right now.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

I dunno why the news is late in the US. But here in the Philippines it's been a news for a week already. Maybe because some suppliers or retailers leaked the info? Prices here had gone up a week ago. I actually purchased 12pcs on some stores who hasn't caught the news or increased their prices yet.

Dick move Intel. I'm considering switching to team red with my next build if they keep it up... (I'm giving up and moving to Windows 10 Enterprise soon, so Kaby(shit) Lake and Ryzen have opened up as options. Enterprise because you can lock it down from the telemetry and all that more than Home or Pro.)

Yeah after that ordeal I actually recommended that to someone on the forums here who was looking at buying a pre-built. Everyone else in the thread seemed more interested in the pcmr "build it yourself" mentality that they didn't seem to stop and consider how awesome a deal the pre-built was. I'm reminded of Linus's "Best Buy Gaming PC" video. Sometimes you just can't build them that cheap, and that is becoming more and more true by the day.

The only other way is all used parts, but people don't seem to like to consider that.

After that, a used pre-built wins right now.  Once everything calms down, I doubt that'll remain true though.
