It's also part competition. By throwing an over the top monitor like this out there it will force competitors to look into the same market and improve the tech in any way they can. In turn furthering the competitive market and how fast tech will upgrade.

 

But I'm hype for this. Heck if the GTX 1080 TI card releases then maybe it'll be worth getting 4K

I struggle with this also. My 1440p 27" is very difficult to use in Windows. Scaling isn't fluid when trying to game.

Well i mean we have 1440p phones with 6" displays,  so this isn't TOO bad.  And remember the xperia z5 premium?

I have an iPhone 5c. 1440p resolution in a 6" display? JEZUZ CHRIZT! And then people turn to their trashy Vizio 65" televisions with 720p MPEGs programming........... such a disconnect

i don't have any issues with 1440p at 27"... been using this monitor for more than a year. 100% default scaling

didn't the z5 premium have a faux-4K display? though i believe it only worked on certain workloads/tasks, like photo viewing

Yeah I'm probably older than you and stuff. I ended up upgrading to the PG348Q around last Thanksgiving and it's much easier on my eyes. 3440x1440 at 100% scaling no problem

I use a 4K 27" monitor with 150% scaling. The amount of apps I use that have an issue with scaling I can count on one hand. Then again, I choose not to rely on a lot of apps. Apps that don't natively scale just interpolate and I really don't care because it 4K @ 150% is the equivalent to 1440p. As for games, 1440p looks pretty much the same on a 4K 27" monitor as it does on a 1440p 27" monitor. It might be slightly blurry, but eh.

Well a 980ti will certainly not cut it for 4K 144FPS. I don't think a 1080ti would either. I guess I have to wait for Volta but by then 8K is all the rage.

It did.  4k panel,  but most apps in android couldn't display it

HDR doesn't really change the latency on TVs like the KS series from Samsung. (when in game mode it supports full HDR).

I'm so psyched for real HDR monitors, so this is great. Being Gsync it will be expensive AF, and lock you into Nvidia's walled garden, but at least this means HDR will be a monitor thing for gamers now.

 

Now can we get a curved ultrawide 1440p one with Freesync 2?

ASUS buys their panel stock from the A- and B+ bins of LG's production lines.

 

Part of the point of being a rebrander is that you don't need as much QC as the OEM.

 

If you want better panels, buy LG's version of the same display. Though of course, LG doesn't make as many gaming-oriented SKUs.

Doubtfull, I wouldn't expect Samsung to seel QLED panels to others just yet, and the QLED Samsung has this year isn't proper QLED yet, that is expected next year.

We've already seen this panel back in June of last year.  It was "sneak-peaked" at some German show (I think?) and my opinion of it hasn't changed since: it's too damned small.  I love my 27" 1440p panels, but it seems pointless to do 4K on anything smaller than 30".

 

Come on, Asus.  Crank that panel size up a few more inches.  Twenty-seven inch panels are becoming amateur hour now.  You can do better than that.  And yes: I'll pay for it.

Since I got similar monitor in QHD version not long ago I couldn't care less for several reasons and the main reason being that I refuse to use any 4k monitor smaller than 32" and even 32"is small....34"-36" would be perfect for using without need for scaling and with really good PPI for low AA requirement in games.

I doubt that any gamer will benefit from 4k vs QHD at 27" except that he will have less FPS despite having AA disabled.

 

But yes, the tech is impressive...let's just hope it doesn't have the same QC uses like the previous ones especially because this time the price tag will be huge.
