How do you figure they pay for the operations, R&D, support staff, shipping, cushion for failed products, etc...

I don't think he's that far off! I think he'll keep younger staff on and they'll keep up the "cool" status. But who knows, in a decade maybe YouTube will no longer be viable. I've found his videos have gone downhill and aren't as interesting to me over the past year and a bit. That could be due to catering to a younger audience though. *shrug*

Can't believe i didn't mention this bit, but i would like to see a 1440p option of this panel. just have all the rest of the specs, but instead of UHD have 1440p.

I would be excited about this but out of the 7 pg248Q and the 4 pg278Q ROG swift monitors that had issues I hate all this ROG swift. Maybe not their ultra wides though.

The pricing at 1200 bucks makes it really attractive. It's still far off with Q3 release but it is the monitor to beat: I might upgrade to 1080ti and this beast seems like a good "Buy it and forget it for 10 years" monitor.

I'm not sure if it would be cheaper to produce with a 1440p resolution, so you might not save much if anything.

I would like to see more competition so the prices would drop for a screen like this.

not referring to having a cheaper price tag. 1440p works pretty well and is not as hard to drive as 4K, especially at higher frame rates. though it seems HDR is commonly paired with UHD these days

A 4k display can show a 1440p image just fine from what i know. And why give up the option to watch 4k movies?

yes...it looks more dark and more black because you can't actually see shit in the dark where as the HDR monitor if you'd see it in the flesh you would realize that even though it's still just as black now you can see detail in shadows and dark areas...HDR is pretty neat...it's not the end of the world not having it, but when your content is HDR supported it looks a lot better.

For example, hit pause in the video at exactly 0:32 and look at the right arm of the caracter...look how much more detail you can see of his outfit...

i believe 4K is a requirement for HDR or something?

i'd like it even more if it was 32'' or 34'' though...27'' imho is rather small for a 4K display...i have 27'' 1440p and i wouldnt want 4K pixels on a 27'' panel...i'd want 34-35'' to be honest...

It isn't.  NAFTA provides for import tax free consumer electronics from the USA (most tech companies have HQs in the USA and operate in USD).  Tax is charged extraneous to the list price, and is an additional 12% on the total.

I don't think people will honestly buy this and expect to play current AAA titles at 4K. That said, there's a lot of games like CS:GO, Dota, LoL, Overwatch, that would look gorgeous and since they aren't very graphically intensive you can get  the high FPS you want in them

There's also great games that are a few years old that would look amazing on this. Like modded Skyrim, Fallout 4, Bioshock Infinite, Far Cry 4, GTA 5, and many others I can't think of right now. Point is, this is a good hybrid for people with deep pockets who like eye candy turned to the max as well as fast-paced Moba or FPS games

Me me me!  I`ll buy your g-sync dp monitors for $100.  $200 for ultrawide with g-sync.  $50 for curved ultrawide. $10 and pocket change for curved normal monitors.
