ASUS announce their ROG Swift PG27UQ 4K 144Hz G-Sync HDR monitor

ASUS announce their ROG Swift PG27UQ 4K 144Hz G-Sync HDR monitor, which uses DisplayPort 1.4 and uses the DCI-P3 colour gamut, which is 25% wider than sRGB. 
 
This monitor has a peak brightness of 1,000rd/m^2 and uses Quantum Dot technology ti offer an ultra-wide colour space. This display has a dynamic backlight which is dynamically controlled across 384 zones, to enable ultra-high contrast and richer, more natural-looking dark scenes. 
 

The ROG Swift PG27UQ will use DisplayPort 1.4 to offer Ultra-high resolutions, HDR compatibility and support for 144Hz refresh rates, making this display easily the most impressive consumer monitor that we have ever seen.  

 

 

 

I've always loved that ASUS ROG series of monitors and this looks nearly perfect, I wish it was 32 inch but it's a great start and shows what the new DP1.4 Standard is capable of. This is a GSYNC model and I expect that Freesync variants by other manufacturers will follow soon. This looks like a Samsung quantum dot panel so will be interesting to see what Samsung and LG bring to this new market.

I'm guessing Nvidia going to announce something similar to FreeSync 2 that deals with HDR related latency?

What kind of GPU setup would this require? I'm guessing a minimum of SLI 1080s.

I think it will cheaper than $1,300 because that is the price of the X34 and this is (IMO) is worse.

I'm not really feeling the hype on this. Where's the thin bezel? This panel should be at least 30" as well.

HDR has got to be the least exciting feature to come along in the last decade IMO

 

If a 27" monitor is selling for $1,000+, then it's very clear that companies are not expecting any customers and adoption will be even slower. I bet it's the 4k@144Hz that's really driving the cost here

Great question. Last I checked DP1.4 can only do 4k120Hz with HDR. Maybe 144Hz is with HDR disabled? Wouldn't be surprised.
