Amazon's Lumberyard is still a BETA product for all intents and purposes.

 

I'd still suggest using Unreal Engine instead of this.

Game is shaping up nicely love the fps part of the game or to be more precise the actual on ground gameplay and environment along the regular space ship play.

Looking forward to it as next gen MMO love the ambition of it. Also geat as far as engine they use overall modify it as needed.

Whats this Star Marine, is that what they decided to call the campaign aspect they mentioned at some point.

 

Anyway until they get close to releasing the full game people need to stop hyping it up since it will never live up to hype nothing can live up to hype.

 it will support VR but not at this time. it is a MMO just not an RPG. however you also have several games inside the game. Star marine is Arena style FPS and Arena commander is dog fighting sim. the campaign will be comparable to the old wing commander games but with both space fighting and fps elements.

Also even if a fork of Cryengine it's still an engine switch so it's probably a large setback to their timeframe and a great excuse to fail to deliver or under deliver on many promises "We couldn't do that/do it well cause of the engine troubles!"

I highly doubt that all the work modifying cryengine just went *poof*... their modifications were apparently ported over to a very similar engine. I'm not knowledgeable enough to verify or even research that claim, but based on the fact that 2.6 is running relatively stable, apparently using the Lumberyard engine, leads me to put some faith in their statement. But beyond that, realizing a project this size is pretty much guaranteed to break glass at some point because (perhaps fortunately) we don't live in a utopian "yoghurt commercial" world. Take the good with the bad and at least try and keep a positive mindset. Pessimism is the cancer of progress. In hindsight you might say that they "wasted" a million licensing CryEngine, but honestly I would rather give them credit for steering their project along the road to best performance when an opportunity presents itself instead of stubbornly sticking to their original course.

i also believe it was a 2 way street considering the improvements CIG made. the planetary tech alone is a godsend for MMOs.

More hype with still hardly anything concrete to show. I really dont know why so many people support this game when the devs have straight up LIED numerous times about progress and internal issues. CIG is an unorganized mess and it is unlikely we will see anything more than a tech demo with hardly any real features from them. If you are planing on spending any money on this game, i would recommend you wait. Odds are you wont get a finished game out of it.

My own sources come from Amazon and Cryengine themselves. What better sources can I possibly have? Again, your sources are former nameless classmates of yours. Which source would you trust, if you were me, and I was saying exactly what you are saying?

 

I am pretty sure the developers of Cryengine know more about Cryengine than your friends do. I also believe they know who they license their engines to, and I also believe Amazon knows what their engine is based on. As much as I would like to believe your impossible to prove sources, I'll take my chances with my tangible sources.

No it isn't.
It's not even a new engine; Lumberyard is just Cryengine with extended network features.
They basically just slapped on Lumbyard to their already modified Cryengine (Star Engine).
Now the engine is basically Cryengine with upgraded physics, 64bit precision, and networking but it's still very much Cryengine at its core.

Last I checked, Lumberyard was only useful if you had experience with CryEngine already. Cause there was virtually no documentation on it.

You mean the guy who said 16 of his friends buying Switches was factual evidence the Switch would be 3x more profitable than the Wii U?

 

Anyway, does anybody here know of any game that ever had a mid development engine swap and gone on to do well? All the ones I can think of ended up being buggy, broken or just shit.

that was always cryengine biggest problem the lack of documentation. and something i hope amazon will fix.

What? How is that even relevant to anything I said? CIG's fork of CE has been modified north of 50% from the original codebase.

 

Stock Lumberyard contains none of the features that CIG has added to the engine.

Again this is nothing but a visual rebrand. All they've done is change the public branding in exchange for some amazon goodies & support. 

 

It's still the same heavily modified fork of CE 3.7/3.8 underneath.
