HAIL HYDRA!!!!

 

Ehem *clears throat* i have come to announce that the greatest torrent site in the interwebs. Kickass torrents (also know as KAT) has come back online today with the same greatness it was brought down and the same look and feel but with a brand spanking new database and the renewed commitment from regular uploaders to fill the site back with torrents, where the content of said torrents can be questioned just like the way it used to be.

 

The efforts to resurrect the site where made by the original staff and moderators that maintained the original KAT but it had to be rebuilt almost from scratch since the currently arrested admins where the only ones with access to the codebase and database that KAT ran on, and the been working since the shutdown to recreate KAT, i took them months but today they have launched with a brand new domain (but similar to the old)

As for the site itself, well the news spread fast because it's currently down by most likely the mass influx of people trying to check the site so i can only say is that was brought back, if you want to check it yourself check the source article because linking to a pirate site is prohibited by the forum rules.

Well that explains the two day shutdown of the site that happened a few days ago.

Maybe, but if they learn from their mistake, they'll have multiple backups unlike the old one. which didn't have one.

I dont think so,quoted from the article-They point out that the site has a proper DMCA takedown procedure, just like YouTube, adding that they don’t store any copyrighted material on the site’s servers.

Isn't that what the old one did too, removing torrents when they receive a DMCA takedown notice? And also the old one didn't have any torrents on it's server either.

I am not sure about that but since they mentioned it in several articles i read about the new website all has pointed out this thing mentioning that the since it has a proper DMCA takedown and if they take down copyrighted content they can function safely under the law-

They can only say that because no torrents are hosted by the site on their servers, torrent downloads are peer to peer connections, that file is downloaded from someone else's computer and then someone can then download that same file from your computer. 

 

If you just even look at the image from the new site in the original post literally all of those are pirated.

Yeah I guess they can only try to completely close such sites really. They will just re-emerge.

What do you mean by they launched today? The community site has been running from just a few days after the KAT shutdown. They just added a torrent section is all.

Not to argue with you, but btjunkie was the greatest ever, Although many will argue it's TPB.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

TPB we can agree on but btjunkie? It's debatable. Ever heard of mininova? Now that is a site I could agree as a greatest site(or at least it was until TPB took ground.)

When it was still up, btjunkie was imo absolutely the best imo. Mininova has fallen very low compared to what they were. 6-7 years ago.

They should just ban torrenting to stop people pirating

You can't just make a protocol illegal. It's like banning UDP.  Torrenting is legal. What you share may or may not be. It's the content rather than the service.

I am not one to support pirating but how legit are theses sites? It sounds like they receive thousands of visitors a day. How often are the torrents viruses and malware or do they have ways to prevent that?

its wild west essentially, the best thing you can do to avoid getting crap on is looking for torrents that come from a know uploader, the good thing is that usually those get popular, so most of the time sticking with torrents that have lots of seeders and leechers is not a bad choice.

Torrenting in itself isn't 'bad', but sharing certain content might violate copyright laws. I torrent Linux distros, 3D models, and some royalty free media, which is totally fine and others torrent this stuff as well. If we banned torrenting, it would set quite the precedent since web browsers, http, ftp, and more can be used for piracy as well, which would mean we should just ban everything. You cannot stop piracy.

Less than you would think but probably double digits % wise best way is to read comments and see whay number of people report it as fake and what not, and sandbox program also helps
