There's tons of cases smaller than consoles that support founders edition length cards...

Yeah, but for most consumers(that are willing to upgrade their systems) this is the easiest way to make a console killer.

Just buy a cheap SFF and a LP card and  you are good to go.

Does the card being that low profile help if the metal part is still fullsize?  Do we have to do a Linus on this to make it fit? :D (angle grinder :P)

No, but most of this cards usually ship with the half height bracket included. This was the case with gigabyte half height 950s at least though.

Slimline/SFF computers. Dare I say console killer?

Aye, this is going to quickly become the ultimate HTPC/Console killer card. Imagine it in these cases:

We're talking 200 bucks for a system that's 40 or 50% faster than the PS4

The HTPC crowd would go bonkers for this, but eh, that's a small market despite what they think. Besides, Intel's iGPUs are okay as long as you're not trying to do 60 FPS 4K video.

And I would think the dual slot design would ruin its chances in low-profile cases.

Not really, every SFF PC I have worked with has had 4 half-height expansion slots. Usually 1 PCIe x16 and 2 or 3 x1/x4 slots.

I was thinking more along the lines of mITX cases. It's rare a low profile mITX case has two slots.

I haven't seen one that doesn't have space for dual slot and still have the PSU to support a dGPU. It either does rotated full length dual slot, like the node 202, or 4 half-height like most HTPC cases from silverstone, Lian Li, InWin etc.

So why buy this? If OEM PCs have more than one PCI-E slot, then why not just buy any of the other dozen dual-slot 1050 Tis?

Because this will fit in them office computers that you can usually pick up for extremely cheap (i5 2k series based pc for £30) my mate is selling a HP one with a i3 4330, 8gb RAM and a 250gb HDD for £50 he got from his office, throw this GPU in it and you have an amazing little gaming pc.

Actually there's cheapo matx cases that are often low profile:

Image result for pixxo slim

Not sure if it's a local thing but this are exceedingly common here. Because of the crappy 1u PSU and half height it's perfect for an HTPC.

Is MSI they only company that manufactures these low-profile cards? I have to be honest, this is the first card I've seen like this. It's so narrow. Definitely think this is an interesting and useful market that needs more innovation now. I'm not a HTPC user, but this may well be what gets me into it. I've always wanted a super small computer where something like this could find a very comfy home.

EDIT: Now, I've seen low-tier cards like this before, just never something that isn't shit like a 1050Ti, so I'm just genuinely interested if this a new thing.

Nope, what I'm looking for is single slot cards. Not low profile ones.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I'd like to see a single slot passive/fanless 1050/Ti (or maybe even a 1060, or something capable of 1080p 60fps high/ultra gaming in current AAA titles.) :)
