HOW DOES THE XBOX ONE S BEAT A PC?

Carlos1010

Hi all,

As we all know the Xbox one S released for presale this week check it here http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A9022102&dgc=BA&cid=302657&lid=5756798&acd=12309224740360116c99817963&ven3=178203472718995289

And it is selling or $399 for the 2tb version. My question is that you know that this console can run 4k at HDR and you have to build a $1000+ PC to have the same performance as this console thus, WHAT GPU DOES THIS THING HAVE? I mean like its so cheap for 4k gaming????? You can barley make a 1440p gaming PC with this price. I have no clue. Thanks in advanced!

The games themselves are not being run in 4k. Its just the interface, even intel graphics can do that. 4k games are for xbox scorpio, which will sadly be outdated in a year or two.

It's just being upscaled, with same graphics as Xbox One (medium settings, no AA, poor resolution). And the standard 500GB model 'll only cost 299.

For gaming, it runs at 1080p and upscales the image for 4K screens. This is much the same as older consoles (i.e 360 and PS3); they output 720p and upscale to 1080p (typically). A gaming PC that can comfortably play at 1440p remains quite a bit more powerful in real terms.

Its just a RX 480 with some pretty terrible CPU cores. Given that if we take an RX 480 PC how can we get it to run a modern game at 4k? Well we could just run it at 1080p and upscale it, that would work and PC games can do that. We also are only targeting 30 fps with vsync on so that halves the effort. Then we can also render at sub 2160p so 1440p and upscale. In addition we can drop some settings, backing off ultra to high or medium will give a lot more FPS.

That really is what "console optimisation" is. They reduce the resolution and upscale the game, run it at half the frame rate, reduce the Field of view and reduce the graphics quality settings. The end result isn't some magic process its perfectly possible to get a PC equivalent card ($200) to do the same thing given the same reductions in quality. The xbox one S is just a PC locked down with a special OS, it isn't going to get much more out of the hardware than a typical PC does frankly. Its just PC gamers don't tend to accept below native resolutions nor 30 fps so they tend to want better hardware.

Optimization by developers for consoles is usually much better than pc they can probably squeeze more power out of it already but of course they will turn down many settings.

This!

Devs spend so much more time on consoles and have acces to deeper levels of the gpu.  All gpus inside are custom made.,not pc grade.

The consoles will run 4K at 30fps.

They take a 1080p image and then convert it with an algorithm to produce a 4k  image.

It's rendering the game at 1080p and the it stretches the image to fit 4k

it doesn't look this horrible because they use additional post processing, but it's not the same as native resolution

yeah, maybe they're not running at 1080p but either way they'll be either upscaling or running low fidelity
