I would much prefer a Chieftec PSU over any Diablotek psu. A quick google shows that most, if not all Chieftec PSUs are made by actual brands like Delta, Sirtec and CWT.

Actually, I think I would put the Delta ones below a fair few of the Sirtec ones. The couple Delta ones they have are ancient and are not 80plus certified and I know that the Chieftec SFX is the same Sirtec platform that Silverstone uses in some of the 80plus gold certified SFX units, and those units aren't bad.

The single Chieftec PSU I pulled apart was about 20years old, it still worked fine, was well built and clearly suffered a lot of abuse in its time. I understand why you are attacking Chieftec, but it is also unfair you attacking them. You don't see them, they are not on this list, so they must be bad. Honestly, I don't think we can change that, they are mostly only sold in Europe so STRMfrmXMN and Energycore (and the other North American based people on this thread) don't see them, and there is also very few people reviews on them, so they cannot be tiered anyway since there isn't much information on them.

Cause they cost a lot and if u dont need zero desible fan mode, etc its just a waste of money right?

but if someone already has it then yeah no need.

I think the issue is just wording.  There are definitely valid reasons to not get an excessively powerful PSU, but there's never a need to get a smaller one - only good reasons why you should :P

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Warning: PSU noob! :D

My rig right now is

I7 7700 (fan: alpine 11+)

Crucial 16 gb dual kit 2133mhz

Gtx 950

2 HDD 1 ssd

3 Case fans

My PSU right now is a Corsair vengeance 500W. I plan to install a KFA2 GTX 1080 EXOC since here in Germany its hella cheap right now (no reason at all to get a 1070 instead right now)

Does my PSU withstand this Rig?

I'd argue that only the Base Pro 900 is anything to write home about tbh. The others are a little dated on internal design. That said, I do like their cases too. One of the few manufacturers who utilise 4 USB ports on the front of their cases these days.

I used to own a Silent Base 800 and absolutely loved it. Just got sick of carrying a full tower to a different LAN every week. It was great, love my Dark Rock Pro 3 also, Got it on sale through NCIX a few years back for $42 USD

From BQ I like the Dark Rock 3 (non-pro), great looking cooler that's not 25 fucking kilograms, their Silent Wings fans, and that's about it.

Their high-end PSUs are great but they cost waaaay too much

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

EVGA GD, 80plus gold certified 550W/650W non-modular PSUs, appears to be a HEC platform, nothing on 80plus.org quite yet.

The 550/650 GD model is the non-modular version of the GQ 650/750 model - a FSP platform.
