Newegg and Micro Center selling off 980 ti stock in lieu of 1070/1080

Neweggs ebay store has priced down the EVGA classified to 410 as of last night. Then today on the main site priced down the MSI golden edition to 400$, 370$ with a rebate. 

 

The used market for 980 ti's and 980 just took a massive hit with this news. And it seems newegg is practically liquidating their stock at this point. It will be interesting to see if other models and e-tailers follow suit.

UPDATE: Micro Center has also started slashing prices and offering rebates. Though not at as low as newegg.

Hope Vega or even Pascal knocks the Fury X down. I want one and might pick it up depending on the RX 490 performance, if it is around the Titan X or above and the Fury X is $300 used, hello Fury X

Jesus christ, 400$ is still a great "sale".

However, once again, the 1070 most likely performs near the same as the 980ti, and costs 359$ soooooo.

Either way though, thats an insane attempt to drop the rest of their stock.

No it doesnt. 1070 MSRP is 380 for custom with many of them being 400+

The only 980ti I found on their site at $399 is the MSI golden edition. All the other 980ti's are $500 and up. (I think I might have seen one around $480).

Talking about the reference design.

Card has a low enough tdp that the reference blower cooler is actually managable. Though nonreference is still far better, overclocking further and running quieter and cooler.

Frankly I don't really consider this so much of a sale, but instead a price adjustment to ensure that people will even consider buying the 900 series stock.  Think about it, with the 1070 selling for $450 for the FE (probably less for partner cards) and being more powerful, $400 is kind of the highest anyone should even consider paying.

Unfortunately no Canadian retailers have got the memo yet, since, as you pointed out, most 980 Tis are $750 or more, while 1070s can be found for under $600

If it wasn't for warranty issues, you non-USA folks just need friends in the USA to buy it and ship it to you.  For all these kinds of things with insane prices.

 

(as an aside, it is "technically" illegal, because you are evading import/export taxes and tariffs)  But they don't go after individuals who aren't profiting off of it or moving a lot of units.

Where did you see a 1070 for $359? $379 is the MSRP for non-reference cards and the cheapest I saw from EVGA was $419

Edit: just saw you response to someone else saying the same thing. but yeah if any 1070's hit $379 they will most likely be an aftermarket blower card which... meh
