It will make no difference, under the terms and conditions of most websites you have to be 18 to view them, and that really gets enforced doesn't it....

That's a waste of time. Have clicked on "Yes I'm 18" far too often when I was younger. But well I'm from a diffrent generation. 90's kids got their porn in a book hidden in the least cleaned part of their room. 

 

And internet wasn't so important. A phone? Well only for the cool kids and begged about a year. Now I see preschoolers with the latest techgear. Stupid parents really.

I think although totally unenforceable, it's not a bad idea to be fair. My children will not be getting unrestricted access to the internet until they are at least 16. It's going to be both a blessing and a curse for them to have a tech savvy dad. On one had they got hand me downs of all my cool shit, on the other they won't be able to access porn or be groomed on the home WiFi. I know they'll see it anyway but they're gonna have to work for it!

So... what are they going to categorize as social media? I mean Youtube, the Nexus, LTT, ModDB, etc. can all be considered "social media" but at the same time all of these places have far more educational material then places like facedesk (I mean facebook) or twitter. Basically depending on how they define it, this could lock off a large majority of the internet for absolutely no reason.

While EU may be bad as such, this is not one of reasons why it is. From my perspective this is a positive thing. Hell my gf works in a high school and most kids are obsessef with fb. It's only fb drama there. I could write a drama bestseller in 7 parts based on them. I was at a wedding recently and I swear, 1/3 kids were talking selfies and posting status updates (with selfies ofc) on fb for 7 hours straight. Seven hours. And of course their first complaint after 15 min was that there was no WiFi, because the cellular data maxed 3Mbs and fb didn't load fast enough. And when you see a family that has 4 kids from ages 7-11 that are screaming and fighting over the pc (they only have one) because they can' go on fb you've seen it all. 

But since it's internet, sadly, gl with any restrictions. And not that most parents will care anyway.
