While the FBI is battling Apple over strong encryption, other justice department officials are already looking at their next target: WhatsApp

As recently as this past week, officials said, the Justice Department was discussing how to proceed in a continuing criminal investigation in which a federal judge had approved a wiretap, but investigators were stymied by WhatsApp’s encryption.

 

 

So here we see a bunch of old-ass laws being surpassed by modern technology, and apparently the government way to deal with their old-ass laws is to keep the laws and force companies to do very, VERY unsafe stuff, like weaken encryption, or even worse, force a company to turn over OS source code and encryption keys (in Apple's case).

Needless to say, the current FBI vs Apple situation is already a world wide issue with iOS devices being everywhere, but once WhatsApp is forced to do all this crap over a billion people suddenly lose their security and privacy, both on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

According to the ANT catalog the NSA already has GSM base station sniffing technology. And with Intel announcing last month that we will see graphics processors based on quantum spin states in 18 months and processors based on either that or electron tunneling in the next two product cycles, they aren't too very far away from just being able to brute force pretty much any encryption they want...

Couple that with the fact that they have software like GrayFish and Regin and they will pretty much be able to do what they want anyway.
