FX9370 or FX 8320

If it has to be on AM3+ (because you already own a high end AM3+ board), then FX8320, they're basically the same cpu, so the cheaper one is the better one.

What motherboard do you have now? Can your motherboard even properly handle an FX8320?

Just want a quick answer

Just get the 8320 and a cooler. Or better yet, an 8350 and something like an H55 so you can get a decent overclock on it.

He did. The 4460 wasn't an option. He said 9370 or 8320.

Sell your motherboard, get an i3-6100 and a B150 motherboard and be done with it. Don't buy 200W parts on a whim. AMD 8-cores are bad choices for almost anything except running VMs on the cheap.

Right now i have the H110i GT, i guess its also a good water cooler for overclocking and for the 8350

That just strengthens my point. For normal consumer tasks, i3s dash AMD's flagship CPU to pieces. Single threads will be so much faster, not to mention upgrade paths - you will actually have an upgrade path.

Speaking of which - you're on a Phenom II x4 - those work on AM3 motherboards, you need an AM3+ board, ideally with a 990FX chipset for the FX 8-core CPUs to actually work, so you may as well just go to Intel. Or wait for Zen. Which could be amazing, or could not be, it remains yet to be seen. But I can tell you from personal experience that i3s are wicked fast and damn, do they keep cool.

Yep! Go for the 8350 and put that on there. Use this as reference for what your overclock should be:

Just look for the other people using FX 8350

So you don't have a compatible mobo then.

Get an I5 4690 and a H97 mobo or a I3 6100

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

There are boards that are AM3/AM3+ that support both generations.

And has OP specifically mentioned precisely what board he has? In any case, I'll take that with a massive grain of salt seeing as even 970 chipset boards have had compatibility issues with the 8-cores. Plus, the VRMs have to be large enough to handle the 800lb gorilla that is a 28nm 8-core.

Presuming he has a AM3 mobo then he can't use the 8320 or 9370 in it:

8320 is great, I've been running mine for a while now and its really good for rendering etc, on account of the core count. Don't listen to the people bashing the FX CPUs, they're great if you need lots of cores very cheaply.

Tell that to Ark, Dayz, arma 2/3 players & simulator players, and other games that are CPU bound like GTA5.

What if you like to do more than just game though? What if you need to get work done, what if you want to do more than one thing at a time? If he's already got an AMD board, may as well stick with it?

If the board he has is capable of running an FX8, then an fx8 may be the better choice, but he still hasn't said what board he has and an fx8 isn't something that can just run on any board.

Also an i5 will do pretty much everything better other than rendering and virtualization.
