It's price, however now there are slightly better options in that price to performance category.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

Far better? Not really. A little better, maybe. Do they have the same global distribution? No fucking way.

The reason 212 Evo is popular because you can tell everyone to buy it and they will find it in their grocery store in Antarctica.

It tends to be a very straightforward upgrade from the stock cooler - and that is usually why so many people get it. Not to mention it has far better temps and is WAY more silent than the stock cooler.

It's just widely used. The Cryorig H7 is cheaper (in the UK and ~5$ more in the US), shorter, quieter, cools better, mounts easier (I owned both), looks nicer.etc

Because it's the go to that everyone knows of yet the Cryorig H7 and the be quiet! Pure Rock are better and are at similar price points.

Cryorig H7 is $35 here, 212 EVO is $15 (it's been "on sale" at Micro Center for a year or so)

I used to be quite active here.

People hear other people say something good about a product so then they don't bat an eye to products that are better.

It's in a sweet spot between performance and cost. It has just enough cooling properties (heat pipes, fins, etc) to overclock and not overheat your CPU.

Plus it's Cooler Master.

From what I've seen, the H7 is usually a little more expensive, as well as not being as widely available.

It kept my CPU at 80 C at 1.27V and it was nice and cheap. Couldn't use 1 of my MoBo's RAM slots with how I positioned it, which sucked.

It's mounting hardware is the horrible tho. I lost a few of those cap things and I can't find where to get replacements, since it's not generic screws.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Cheap, widely used, effective, fits in the majority of gaming cases, well known brand, and its been around for quite a while.

There are other very competitive coolers, but because so many people have used the 212 its very easy to recommend.
