No Broadwell-E chips? Is Skylake-E next?

Hey guys,

After checking out the leaked Intel roadmap HERE, It looks like Broadwell chips didn't really come to market on the desktop side of things. So is Skylake-E the next refresh for desktop CPU's? I would like to build a new system around summer this year, possibly go with a new enthusiast-grade CPU this time.

Nope, Broadwell-E is rumoured to be just around the corner. Broadwell did come out, but it's just not really available for individual purchase. There's a fair few mass produced systems that use the Broadwell desktop CPUs.

Broadwell-E is just around the corner.  6800, 6850k, 6900k, 6950x.  6core, 6core, 8core, 10core.  They'll be here soon, and I as well will be upgrading to it.  The 8-core should be around $650-$750 and 10-core is likely $1000 as per usual.

how much would a 6 core be?

Probably as low as $350 to $500 for the 6850k.  I believe the main difference between the two on the list was either pcie lanes or cache.  May be wrong.  It may've been clockspeed.

Broadwell-E is coming.

It's general Broadwell that didn't go anywhere because Intel sat on it for some mysterious reason. And that really sucks, because Broadwell's default iGPU is so much better than Haswell's.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

Probably can't go wrong with the 5820k as it is now.  I am only waiting for Broadwell-E, because of how cheap the 8-core will be compared to the 5960x.

... Wa? They cost the same more or less.

If anything the 5960x will drop down abit by the time of release.

From what I can tell, here's how it's looking:

- The Haswell-E and Haswell Refresh was released from about mid-2014 and around the end of 2014; Which was an "upgrade" from 4th Gen Intel Core technology.

- Skylake was released back in August-September last year; based on new 6th Gen Intel Core technology.

- Today they're looking to release a 5th Gen-based enthusiast class CPU's. Replacing the 4th Gen, but not replacing the 5th Gen lineup or 6th Gen lineup.

Rumor has it it'll be closer to $1,500 for the higher end chip. Makes sense. Very few people need that much power, why have it at the $1,000 price point.

I really, really don't think it'll be that low. Way too close to 1151 territory.

Intel doesn't lower CPU prices really. They just stop manufacturing them and let retailers run through their supply before they launch the new chips.

I'd go Haswell-E. The 5930k will likely be more power than you'd need for the next 5 years.

The 5820k to begin with is better priced than the 6700k, as it is, in the US, $50-ish cheaper on average.  The 6950x will probably still retain the $1000.  Intel hasn't changed it since the 980, and likely won't now.  I still have my full bet on them remaining things as they are.  And yeah @CatCloud they never change their pricing when it comes to new vs old.  Actually the older stuff gets more expensive as time goes on more or less - well, the components / mobo, not the CPUs.

Intel won't obviously, but some retailerers will.

Broadwell-E will not include the iGPU... so not really an issue ;)

It's cheaper because it's no longer new, and the 6700k currently has supply issues. Thus supply and demand kicks up the price.

They also haven't gone to a 10 core set up, have they? It's not really used by anyone but content creators who, honestly, can afford the extra premium.

That's how marketing works, that's how you'll maximize profits. I really don't see a point in marketing it any lower than $1,500.

I would think an i7 LGA1155 would do just as well if you're not into serious editing. You won't really see a benefit, if anything an ever so slight decrease when it comes to gaming on X99.
