CrossFire is fine nowadays - better than SLI certainly - at least with scaling

Not only with scaling, It also doesn't require a bridge, does work with PCI X4 slots (X8 minimum for SLI) and allows different GPUs to work together I'd say it's cooler overall

He's comparing it to a SINGLE 980Ti, why do people not open their eyes and actually read posts in their entirety?  And it's 4GB x 2, not 8GB VRAM...

No it isn't... It IS 2x R9 290... It's a single card with 2 GPU's on 1 board and 4GB VRAM per core... They just mashed 2 290x's into 1 slot and called it a day...

Near +96 mV, the power limiter will start to kick in from time to time during games, when set to default, which is why we set it to +50% for all these tests.

 

Once we reach +144 mV, which results in a scorching 1.35 V on the GPU, the maximum stable frequency reaches its peak. At this point, the VRMs are running temperatures above 95°C even though they are cooled by the watercooling loop via a nearby copper pipe. That much heat on the VRMs is definitely not good for long-term use. I would say a safe permanent voltage increase on an unmodded card is around 40 mV or so.

 

Going beyond 144 mV, to 168 mV, just causes the card to get massively unstable, with maximum stable clocks nearly down to stock voltage levels. 

 

From stock to +144 mV, power draw increases by 27%, while overclocking potential only went up by 5% and real-life performance increases by only 3%

We have had 2 major performance improvements in AMD drivers since june, the September one alone gave a flat boost of 7 FPS to ALL AMD cards (AMD reduced CPU overhead A LOT). In addition to this comes several game specific improvements.

 

All benchmarks for AMD cards are now slightly wrong. AMD cards should perform better, as CPU overhead in drivers (which has and still is, been a major achillies heel for AMD) has been drastically improved.... we are talking nearly 200k more drawcalls under DX11....

Yeah... that case is 41.15L. Over 10x volume of the ITX case i am building from scratch, and yet i will still be able to fit a 980 Ti reference card in it, a 6700k, 32gb of memory and a Samsung 950 Pro in it. 

 

With 40L in volume, you can find mATX cases that support SLI/Crossfire and still technically be the same size. When i think ITX, i think, go as small as physically possible, or don't bother. 

 

Then again, that's just my opinion.

benchmarks should be relevant. benchmarks from an era when voltage was supposed to be hardlocked, and unlocked OC was abused through a software bug in MSI afterburner, thus drivers and card may respond unaturally to it, is hardly evidence.

 

Its like @Curufinwe_wins posting those furmark tests with the R9 295x2.... using a program designed to make a GPU shit itself does not equal to actual performance in games wich just tries to use the GPU at all, not kill it with fire....

 

with driver improvements, which would have changed the "performance per watt" scale of that benchmark you posted. Alongside drivers and software that ACTUALLY allow official OC of the card (not abusing software bugs), well... things might change a bit.

 

CPU overhead also means the card WILL deliver more, for less.

 

Posting a benchmark once is OK, if it is relevant.

Posting irrelevant or outdated benchmarks twice, just to repeat a point that is already on unsteady ground is simply trying to spread propaganda.

Some of us unfortunate folk with small places and ITX systems can't afford the space, not with your fancy full towers and custom loops

I sincerely do not have room for a 120mm rad. In fact, my CPU cooler cannot exceed 53mm or it will touch the side panel. The price one must pay when wading in the waters of sub-4L ITX cases.

I don't see the point in having an ITX build that is the same volume as a much stronger mATX build. The mATX build would support twice the memory count and twice the GPU count of a standard ITX board (unless you do a dual graphics card). The point of going ITX, in my opinion, is to make powerful builds so small that you have to have an ITX board to do it.

if you ask them they do openly tell you how dual GPU cards works. Both AMD and Nvidia is quite up-front about that.

Technically, its volume is almost exactly the same. .5L difference. Though, i agree for the most part on the compact size, but i would not consider 41L compact. Overclock.net lists SFF as anything under 20L. Your case doubles that size, and still fits the same amount of hardware in it that anyone else with an ITX system can do, at much smaller sizes. As far as handles go, mine will be small enough to fit in a small suitcase, so i tend not to care about built-in handles.
