Siri Won't Answer Certain Music Related Questions Without Apple Music

So, apparently if you're not subscribed to Apple Music, when you ask Siri a question instead of bringing up a web result she'll simply tell you she's not able to give you an answer. This is pretty weak if you ask me; basically locking out some of your phones features because you're not subscribed to a pay service?

Hopefully this trend doesn't catch on, and is quickly reversed.

It doesn't do it for all questions, though the article I read doesn't go into too much detail and I don't have time to search out others before work.

 

 

I hope this doesn't catch on, though it wouldn't surprise me if this becomes the norm. We've integrated phones so heavily into our lives, it's only a matter of time before companies start to use them to nickel and dime us.

Is anyone surprised by this, I'm certainly not, apple themselves calls their product lines an "ecosystem" which basically means you need most of our shit to use any of our shit. Or you can kiss some features good bye, I will never buy an apple product due to their closed business practices as I like to be able to customize my OS and don't like paying a fortune for a meh product. This is also the reason I'm currently staying away from windows 10, it feels like an apple product to me (minus the cost).

I'm kinda pissed off that I have to take my dad's iPhone 5S because he's getting a new one. When I get my dbrand skin for it I'm going to order it without the cutout for the Apple logo out of sheer shame.

Apps, ALLL THE APPS. You just can't run most fairly common apps on older devices. Apple have probably made it so that iOS 9 runs really bad on a 4s, but it runs never the less.

again....source?   most apps will only run on certain ios' and wont have device limitations...the top of the free charts right now is smashy road.....under compatibility ios 5.5.1 no device restrictions.......Facebook goes back as far as ios7.....sorry but the only things that have new device restrictions are intensive games and thats not really apples fault is it

 

ios 9 on iphone is a striped back version mainly due to it being 4 year old phone......go find a android phone that old running 5 let alone 6, infact ill be you will struggle to find a phone that old running kikcat.

You can't just say something blatantly wrong and then go "Agree to disagree". It'd be like me saying, "I don't like Android because whenever you unlock it the phone shocks you but lets agree to disagree if you don't think that happens. Everyone has different personal experiences". Apple's most recent OS runs on devices as far back as the iPhone 4S from 2011. Most old apps still allow you to download old versions of apps if you're for some reason on a phone older than that or you refuse to upgrade.

Well, it's true, I think this is a dick move.

I have owned several Apple devices though. My daily driver was a MacBook Pro and I still have an iPad 2. Doesn't excuse this though

Frankly I don't use voice recognition anyway. Also, this is not a phone problem - this is an APPLE phone problem. Android users get the choice to disable or replace pretty much whatever they want, including the rom if the one they are on is more locked down than usual.

I use it on the watch to text, set reminders, set alarms, and change songs all the time. (especially when driving. I can just say, "Hey siri, shuffle Kanye West. Or play some rock songs. Or play some songs by Aerosmith" and it does. I do have Apple music though so I'm not sure if the latter things were dependent on that. Literally without taking my hands off the steering wheel, "Hey siri shuffle Aerosmith" and it automatically starts playing songs by Aerosmith. Kinda nice. I wish it synced up with Google Now though. I love referencing Now throughout the day from my notification center.
