When you install Firefox normally, it will install the 'Windows 10' edition. Has Reading mode like Edge and is fully high-dpi ready, and has a small tweaks to the GUI. Still doesn't have smooth zooming.

Now, I am not a tab master. But it so far, based on my observations, Firefox seams to have no memory leaks, and doesn't crash.

I never really cared about ads. It's how all those YouTubers you watch for FREE get money.

That's nice for 10 but in Windows 7 I had consistent memory leaks and henceforth crashes all of the time. 37.0.1 but never bothered to update.

Well, I don't block ads because they are annoying, I block them because where I am for college doesn't exactly have the best bandwidth for students to use. Ads take up too much of an already slow connection, so I block as much as I can to be sure that I can actually watch a YouTube video properly. Hopefully I can keep blocking them so that I can keep watching YouTube videos as a whole.

Firefox is shit these days, utter shit.

I don't get why people are having so many issues with browsers. I have no issues with Firefox. Hell I don't have any problems with Chrome either (although I don't use it very often).

I really like Firefox as it is right now.

I had to install the 64 bit fork of FF, WaterFox, because FF would use more than 4gigs of ram because of my literally hundreds of tabs open, and large double digit numbers of 4chan, reddit, etc threads open and actively switching to/from with several idle games running, which would cause it to crash.

Firefox has this amazing feature called: Bookmarks.

You should check it out.

It allows you to keep in memory sites, and quickly jump to them, reducing tabs to a few, yet access to all your sites.

lol yeah, I tried that, but I forget about the stuff I have in tabs/bookmarks in, unless I'm literally scrolling past it each time I go to a new tab.

Straight up, going back to Firefox 4 then watching it after an update to the latest version is an eye opener. It goes from running just fine on a Pentium III @ 667MHZ (slowest I've tried in internet capable rigs) to impossible to use after the update.

An idea: I don't know about Chrome, but in Firefox you can do Ctrl+B to show/hide a side column with a list of all your bookmarks with site icons. You can make folders if you want to help your organization. That is what I do. Assuming Chrome has that side bar thing (or via an extension), I am sure it will solve the big memory and crashing problem for HUGE amount of people on either web browser.

Finally. I keep adblock off on YT in order to support content creators, while I use it by default on other websites I don't usually visit and on facebook.

 

I just whitelist all the youtube channels

But the problem lies in bookmarking and organizing all the tabs I have open. And I'm laaazzyyyyy. And I know where all the tabs are because I scroll past it dozens of times an hour so it makes sense to me.  :D

I remember firefox 4 being one of the slowest firefox releases ever, it's gotten significantly faster since then (on hardware newer than a pentium 3 :P). Some serious rose-tinted glasses ;)

 

I have one machine that runs windows 7 64-bit on a pentium 4 and firefox has no problem on it.

I remember firefox 4 being one of the slowest firefox releases ever, it's gotten significantly faster since then (on hardware newer than a pentium 3 :P). Some serious rose-tinted glasses ;)

 

I have one machine that runs windows 7 64-bit on a pentium 4 and firefox has no problem on it.

Pentium III lack the SSE2 instruction set. Pentium 4 do not.

Exactly my point. Why should anyone care about a browser's performance on such ancient hardware?

 

Also as an unrelated note, anyone complaining about Firefox's interface responsivness should go try out the firefox developer channel, it has multi-process enabled by default and the interface is a LOT more responsive than previous versions (and just about on par with chrome).

 

Even better if you go to about:config and enable async pan zoom (asynchronous scrolling), makes it so scrolling is always responsive even when pages are loading. Lot's of great performance improvements coming down the pipe for firefox.

 

Almost all firefox performance issues that people complain about are issues with 'perceived' performance (interface responsiveness).

I run firefox on an i5-2500 at home and an i5-4440 on my work computer, runs like a charm. Only performance issues I run into are certain very heavy pages freezing the interface for a few seconds while they load (e.g. my rutorrent webui), but that's solved with e10s in the developer channel.

 

If you're seeing it run as slowly as on a Pentium III, you've got some serious issues on your end...or you're just being hyperbolic.
