Are Consoles Worth Buying? And which ones do you like.

No, waste of Money in my Eyes. On top, I like my Games as beautifull as possible. When i look at my tweaked Witcher 3 and than see the Console Versions, no way i would ever buy one.

Consoles are fine under a few circumstances:

 

Limited budget. If someone only has about 350 and already owns a TV, a console is probably the most economical solution short term.

Limited knowledge. There are actually still people out there who are "scared" to use a keyboard for gaming because of the numerous amount of buttons, and also are not smart enough to figure out how to lego a computer together or ask for help.

Used to controllers. A mouse and keyboard is far more accurate than a controller, but to some a controller is a lot more familiar, or they don't have enough desk space for a proper battlestation.

 

Thats about all I can think of, consoles are not good for gaming since games hardly run on them, their features are limited, and statistically costs more to own than a PC.

That's such bullshit. Consoles are great for gaming, they not only make developers and publishers more money, but they allow consumers to more easily and conveniently consume games. Both Microsoft and Sony this generation have made awesome efforts of creating a unified gaming experiences without all the headaches of PC gaming. I don't know what you mean by "hardly running on them" because developers optimize games for consoles. Apart from being modular (i.e. better graphics if you want to pay) and being more open (e.g. supporting mods, more input methods) there isn't much PC gaming has over console gaming.

There are a lot of dumb people in this world. PS4 got the most popular because hurrr durr the graphics are better. Seriously? Because 900p vs 1080P makes a difference. I can't even stand 1080P anymore or even 4K, only way I can play games now is on 1440P 144hz IPS.

 

So I have to give this one to the Xbox One.

I have a PS4, they're ok. I play 2k15 a lot on it. But I bought it in the hope that EA would release a skate or a fight night game. Hasn't happened yet. lol 

Also I  use it for very badly optimised PC games isntead, ie Batman Arkham Knight.

I'm pretty sure that 290X would get more then 30FPS at 1080P...

 

I mean this guy gets 40FPS at 4K or 5K with only one Titan X. My overclocked 980Ti would get more then that since it's ~10% more powerfull:

I'm considering to buy a PS4 when the Uncharted ultimate exclusive 1080p 60fps all dlc's definitive edition comes out, and then pick up Uncharted 4 whenever that releases aswell. Thought this would be a good place to ask about your thoughts on the PS4 overall.

Consoles are worth it if they have something you want to play on them. Simple as that. I've got several PlayStation systems and Nintendo systems cause they have games I want on them. Otherwise, I usually get PC versions if available.

The current generation of consoles has done a pretty terrible job of hooking me so far. I've been finding may more value in having a PC for any online multiplayer games and a 3DS for JRPGs and a few niche games. There are also plenty of great hidden gems on PC.

 

For me:

 

XBONE: It's a Call of Halofield: Modern Gears of Forza system. Nothing there for me to care about. No imagination, no creativity. If it gets Monster Hunter I'll get it.

 

PS4: IT'S GETTING GOD DAMN PERSONA 5. But the library isn't a whole lot better than the Xbone save for maybe a few more creative exclusives. Also if it gets Monster Hunter I'll get it.

 

WiiU: Definitely the best library of games out of the 3, but it's way underpowered and is too expensive for what it really is. If it gets Monster Hunter I'll get it.

I have an Xbox 360 for GTA V (since I don't own a PC that could run a game such as that) but I'm not too much of a gamer and actually I find myself playing more WoW than GTA V...

Though don't buy a console to be your only system for gaming.

I'd consider buying a PS4 if I really wanted to play Bloodborne, Last of Us, and a couple other games... But that's all I'd do.

But is the xbox one really worth buying over the 360 ?

I'm a pc gamer and back then I played fable2 on a friend's xbox360 console . I played the whole game and it was a lot of fun. ( sometimes I watch lets plays of that game. even tho I dont enjoy lets plays)

 

Now the thing is. Fable2 is only for xbox360 and not one/pc.

But okay it is just one game.

Since I am 17 years old and dont have that much money I'm not sure if I should spare for a xbox one(or just get a used 360). Is it really better than a 360 ?

I've invested really much money into my PC Equipment :D

After all I dont mind fable that much. I would also be happy with a Playstation^^.

 

Do you have tipps for a console beginner ?

I've played really much csgo on my pc and I think I would enjoy Call of Duty on a console. (But not on PC)

My WiiU was worth every penny. Everytime I have friends over we mostly end up playing games on the WiiU.

People have been having a go at the Wii U and I don't think they have a clue what they're talking about. So lets fix that ;)

 

You can emulate Wii games on PC

The Wii and Wii U are not the same machine. The Wii U is quite a bit more powerful, it's closer to a very efficient 360 with a heap more RAM than it is to the Wii. So far there aren't any proper Wii U emulators and anything that claims to be one is probably a scam. Do a search, you'll find a few but they'll ask you to fill out a survey and given them a donation. Plus think about it, in order to play Wii U games you need a GamePad. The only way to get a GamePad is to buy a Wii U. So just buy a Wii U.

 

Online is bad

In what sense? You can add friends based on their user name, the same way it works in Steam. Most of their games have an online mode of some kind. Smash Bros lets you play online so does Mario Kart and Splatoon. Even games which you'd expect to be single player only like Mario and Zelda have online posts from MiiVerse bleeding into the world. Sure there's no voice chat (which I disable anyways) but really, it's about on-par given the sort of games they produce. Plus it's free.

 

The Online store

What's bad about the eShop? I really don't know where that one came from. It's literally identical to every other digital store front. You can purchase a title with either store credit or directly via a credit card. When you purchase it it downloads in the background, even when the console is turned off. It does the same thing with updates. There are regularly sales for titles and bundle discounts. All of the prices are listed in dollars now unlike previously when they talked about "points" which was kinda confusing. Unless there's something I'm missing I don't get what the issue is. As far as I can tell it's just as good as Steam... if you ignore the fact that Steam's sales are far more agressive

 

It's underpowered

Yes. But so are all of the consoles to some degree. I don't know about you guys but I don't buy a console to get the highest end visuals. I buy a console for the convenience and the fact that it has it's own exclusives. The GamePad makes the Wii U by far the most convenient console. If I want to play a game I don't even have to be infront of the TV. If I want to use the TV there's a remote built directly into the GamePad. Furthermore the exclusives are the most unique exclusives out of all the platforms. If I want to experience the highest end visuals? I'll walk over to my PC

I have a PC, why should I care?

 

Media playback

A Chromecast is as cheap as chips. So are Blu-Ray players. I don't buy a console for these things, I already have them. I buy it to play games. Also the fact that it's not my media playback machine means that I can play Smash Bros off-TV while someone else is watching a movie.

you've got to install drivers, steam, origin if you like bf4, even more drivers buy seperate decent keyboard and mouse, or just install a driver for a xone controller.... unless youre a techwiz and love to deal with that like i do, for a normal person itll just be easier to get a console in all honesty

Installing drivers? apart from GPU drivers, all you have to do is plug them in and Windows Update gets them for you automatically. Even GPU drivers are in Windows Update.

Some people find that more work than its worth and those people usually buy a console since its pretty much ready to go once you plug in power, a hdmi cable and setup an internet connection.

Plug 'in play

Maybe in the early 2000's. Nowadays, it's plug-in, update firmware, create account, pay £50 for multiplayer, put disc in console, update game. You start this process at 11 am and finish it at 5 pm.

I have a PS4 for exclusive titles and games like NBA 2k, FIFA and Madden that rely on online communities. If a game comes out on both PC and Console and I really care about its online I usually buy on console.

Yeah I do the same thing also my friends are on console so I get games I would play with them on my ps4
