It's Time to Make the Switch

bradscoolio

Now that Windows has become a malware platform for delivering ads, littered with cleverly named programs built for the purpose of harvesting our information, it's time that we make the hard decision that will ultimately decide the outcome of our rights to actually own or our own computers.

It's time that we switch to Linux.

We should not stand to have to agree to a terms of service to use our own computers, they're ours, not anyone else's!

It will be time to make the switch when the drivers on Linux are better and not worst than those on 10.

And yes we can argue all day about who's fault is that but the bottom line is the same: it's just not a viable gaming platform with the sad fucking state of the drivers available right now.

I'd love to switch, but wine isn't perfect and there aren't enough natively supported games yet. If I need to switch to windows any time I'm doing something other than web browsing then its pointless.

While you're at it, don't forget to disconnect the pc from the internet. And seal off all the USB ports on the pc. Coz you know NSA will be able to spy on you with those right..

I don't think this will be very successful here. This forum is cringeworthy when it comes to it's attitude towards Linux.

I have to say, though, since I switched to openSUSE for my main os, Windows feels extremely limiting for everything except gaming. And the lack of games is not even Linux fault.

Linux: Hey windows! Watcha doin over there?

Windows: Gaming.....

Linux:.....oh

Not for long if microsoft keep being a bunch of dickheads.

I agree completely. I might actually make the switch to Linux at some point down the road. It will depend on whether or not Fallout 4 can run on Linux. If it can? screw windows completely.

It's worth noting that devs creating support for Linux is slowly becoming a thing.

Yeah, but it seems like people don't want any of that here. This thread would be more successful on forums like the tek syndicate forum.

It's the Internet not the Windows OS itself. If you don't want people collecting your information then unplug your internet.

It may have something to do with the perception (and sometimes fact) that some Linux users perhaps have a bit of a *ahem*  superiority complex?

I will happily test Ubuntu every now and again but it still doesn't do 60% of the things I need it to, even OSX is a more solid OS for MY use case and it really isn't that much of a fuss to set up a Hackintosh.

You have to realise that sure Linux may actually be fine for 80% of the population who do light work and browsing on their win boxes but if you game or need to do something genuinely productive (creatively speaking), Linux is a distant third. No Adobe/Corel/AutoDesk/etc. support makes Linux essentially useless to me!

It's worth noting that devs creating support for Linux is slowly becoming a thing.

I don't need it to be useful in 2/5/10 years I need it to do what I want NOW. Windows and OSX will always have an edge because they are useful NOW not a distant promise!

Most of the software I use doesn't even run on OS X...

But If my software/games would run on linux I would switch instantly I love the customization and the minimalism possible.
