I think they should just abandon the "S" releases and just release an actually new phone once every two years. But yeah there are always the sheep that want a new one like every damn month...

 

Samsung's phone releases must give you an aneurysm if you think Apple releases phones too quickly.

Literally it feels like they release a new phone every damn week. I don't mind Apple's phone upgrades, but Samsung's is just horrid.

The "Retina" moniker has meaning. You don't much sharper than a retina-level resolution. The human eye literally stops being able to perceive differences after a certain pixel density. Going higher only serves to waste your battery life, regardless of your affectations toward chasing resolution.

But we don't know that pixel density, and it will be different to everyone depending on their eyesight.

I can still notice the sharpness between my LG G3 and almost anything else out there that has a lower res screen. Sure, the difference is minor, but it's still there.

 

And I still have great battery life.

They have so SO SOOO many product lines.

 

Sony has a 6 months release plan for their Xperia Z line.

The thing is with graphics cards, you actually see better performance with higher FPS. iPhones? You get a bigger peen. That's it.

Wat? Each iphone is faster than the previous one.  Phones are not about performance its about features.

Yeah, they have worldwide models, variations of those models, then they have models with different internal specs in the US and different specs in the rest of the world(at least they don't do it anymore, as of the S6), then they have phone they only sell in third grade countries (probably), then they have super high-end phones they only sell in South Korea.

Because that really matters....... My sisters iphone 4 ran apps just as fast as my iphone 6 plus. They may only have 1.2ish ghz dual cores but ios is optimized to a crazy degree and the functional difference between phones is usually very very small. The camera though they seem to make clear improvements on. Not enough to justify a yearly upgrade but its noticeable.

I mean LG is kinda guilty with this scheme like making low end models of the G3 and such, but it's nothing compared to Samsung.

To you perhaps. But I'd upgrade from a 5 to a 5S for the touchid alone. It's a god send. Literally faster having touch ID than it is to not have a password lock at all. Phone is unlocked by the time I'm looking at the screen when I take it out of my pocket.

I understand why manufacturers make low-end phones, but not why Samsung has like 20 models of low-end phones.

Because that really matters....... My sisters iphone 4 ran apps just as fast as my iphone 6 plus. They may only have 1.2ish ghz dual cores but ios is optimized to a crazy degree and the functional difference between phones is usually very very small. The camera though they seem to make clear improvements on. Not enough to justify a yearly upgrade but its noticeable.

Yeah, but the iphone 6 is a 64bit processor, and is 14nm. It uses less power. It has touch ID. It is thin light, has a much better screen. the camera is better, there are more compatible apps.

Hey! I got my first smart phone midway through Freshman year, and IPhone 5 and I travel a lot. The first one lost its speaker phone, and the 6 has been out a while, but now I've had to upgrade to it so I can talk in the car. I am far from a moron. Apple doesn't release flagship phones often at all. That said, I wish I could have held on a few more months for the S so I would have a lesser chance of needing an upgrade sooner in the future.

Back when Apple innovated this statement made sense. Now? Not so much. Innovation in smartphones has stagnated in general, and lies mainly in software, which older devices still can upgrade to. There's very little reason to justify buying a new phone yearly, especially since it's also extremely wasteful in some cases.

 

I don't want to sound like a green hippy, but we could all do with a little less phones, it'd help the planet.

Retina was used as a term to differentiate between the product lines when not all of Apple's products were using high resolution displays. You have to remember the iPhone 4 with "retina display" came out five years ago. High resolution displays were not the norm and it was an easy way to tell consumers "Hey we have something no one else does". The average consumer doesn't know what the hell 1920x1080 is. Learn marketing 101. 

 

Now pixels are being used as a dick waving competition by Apple's competitors. Apple doesn't need to increase the pixel density on their phones. It's already to the point where you can't distinguish between pixels unless you stick your gob right on the screen. My sister has an LGG4 with a 2560x1440 display. I think it looks worse than the iPhone 6's screen when it comes to the colors and contrast. Just useless upgrades to an already fine screen that depletes battery life and uses up more performance than is necessary.

But we don't know that pixel density, and it will be different to everyone depending on their eyesight.

I can still notice the sharpness between my LG G3 and almost anything else out there that has a lower res screen. Sure, the difference is minor, but it's still there.

 

And I still have great battery life.

Seriously, I didn't expect to use it as much as I did on my LG G3. Still, it was definitely not the feature that made me went like "Oh, I'm gonna buy this phone!".I was also rocking an S3, so an upgrade was on its way anyway.

1. I think people who buy new GPUs every year are wasting money... Might even call them morons.

2. With GPUs the thing its used for actually gets more demanding over time warranting an upgrade. With the phone... uh not really hardly.

1) Having bought two GPUs a year for the past few years, I take offense to that.

2) Depends on the person and phone. My brother just recently picked up a Galaxy S5 and with the new lollipop update, he's been having trouble with bogged down software. My LG G4 and my friend's Galaxy S6 are running perfectly fine, so a normal consumer would assume the phone ages quick and may look to picking up a new device as soon as possible.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

The speed at which apps run isn't the only thing that can be improved speed wise by new generations of iPhones or other phones for that matter... 

 

If I compare my iPhone 6 to my old iPhone 5 (Which I did a clean install to) not only are the standard things like opening apps quicker, but I get faster wifi speeds, I unlock it 10x as fast thanks to touch ID, games that use a lot of the gpu power like MKX don't crash as much and run smoother, I even get texts through quicker ectect 

 

From the iPhone 6 to 6S apps will probably run the same, but the touch ID is said to get a massive improvement with speeds of unlocking being increased by 30% making scanning under 1 second now, it'll also have 2GB of ram, and force touch will make doing things a lot quicker and more responsive, like their burst still integration of force touch into the camera app.  

 

There are lots of ways to make using your phone quicker that isn't just ramming a faster processor into it, think about the whole picture

 

Not that I'm saying the iPhone 6S will be a big change, I certainly have to intention of picking one up lol

I haven't upgraded since iphone 5. Just changed the battery and it perfectly works as long as it is jailbroken.

What are you talking about? My G3 can last a whole day video streaming.

mine was a shower of shit i would have to charge halfway through the day untill the 5.0 update and then it would just about make to the end of the day....if i was gentle...my 6+...2 days full use 99% of the time
