I've used 9 gigs of ram with <25 tabs before...

I haven't ever used that much ram. How are you doing that?

Yeah, but most of that is just your OS and Chrome taking up space it doesn't need. Heck, I'll have 8-9GB in use and on standby when I'm doing basically nothing too. In this case it was basically using the page file as RAM, with absolutely no memory free. (or that's how it seemed to me) I know you know this, but I'm just trying to say that that's really what was going on.

Probably b/c you "only" have 8. With 6 GB on my laptop i could have 30 tabs open in Chrome and it'd not take up more than 4, but with 16 in my desktop, 30 tabs will eat up memory like there's no tomorrow. Of course if I open a VM or bluestacks it'll take up less.

Just quirks of Windows I guess.

I guess. I'm just so used to only having 2.5 GB of usage, that anything over that is crazy.

Yeah. going from 6 to 16 i had a minor heart attack when I first saw the memory usage  :P. I don't like to use more than 10 tabs anyway, only time i do is when I'm shopping around or comparing things. Which admittedly happens a lot when I'm on the "New Builds and Planning" thread.

...and I am 'five nines' sure it will.

7>16 nine years, in nine years you will only be 25 another nine 34 and so on, you still maintain that your opinions on "stuff you have thought long and hard over" will not change by the time you are 60?

:P

i know me.

you dont know me.

Isn't it cheating to say your preferred OS visually is a completely custom one? :P

yes.

it is indeed.

now shut up before the OS police show up.

so i went to a dell store to look for monitors. this guy approaches me and i ask him what all monitors do you have, to which he spits out like 5 memorized product codes. not recoginizing any of them, i ask him do any of these have a displayport input? he says "yeah all of them have all common display ports - hdmi, vga and dvi" i did a giant facepalm and asked him specifically about displayport 1.2. his reply- "you cant have 1.2 ports, youll either have 1 or 2 or 3...." i ran out of the store that instant.

always bring a photo or printout of all different types of video connections, then, and only then, if they say displayport doesnt exist is it time to scream and run for the hills.

My mom tried to stop me from using my computer by unplugging my headphones and taking my spare mouse

my mom thinks words like 'its late' or 'get off the computer' are enough.

and on nights i actually do get to bed early, and i mean EARLY, when i sleep in she blames it on staying up untill 3 AM on my computer.

wtf

SBAC, they think we are too dumb to even turn on a computer let alone take a test on one. We had to watch a god awful presentation on how to use a calculator.

you'd be surprised at how many kids in my 8th grade class NEEDED the tutorial on hwo to use a calculator.

not even a graphing or science calculator, just your normal ass 16-key calculator.

Watch out for each other. Love everyone and forgive everyone, including yourself. Forgive your anger, forgive your guilt. Your shame. Your sadness. Embrace and open up your love, your joy, your truth, and most especially your heart.

Welp, thanks to you guys I've been reading Airz's stories this entire evening. Started at 1, now I'm hooked! I love his style of writing and building of suspense (+all the coffee related puns and references). It's like I'm reading a novel for nerds ;)

Yeah same here, also, the calculator does not work with the keyboard, really, most kids don't even think to do that, but it is natural instinct for me, I hate having to click each button on the screen.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/691087-playstation-4/71368174 Found it. The knowledge we take for granted...! The worst part of it is that some people who think that, think they are very knowledgeable when it comes to tech. That's the worst part.

My brother once asked how to upgrade the graphics card in his laptop. He doesn't even have discrete graphics. When I told him he can't, He said I was lying and that anything is possible. LOL

I guess it's possible trying to rip out/apart a soldered chip could brick the laptop......

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

It's definitely possible to try, but unless you're an absolutely brilliant, I'm 99.9% sure you will fail. It would be awesome if you could though.

Back in October of this year, I pitched the idea of a student-run coding class as an afterschool activity.  If you've read any of my previous stories you'd know that most of my school's IT team and "tech squad" are idiots who think they know everything because they can click on safari and go to google.com.  Naturally, they took over this club and I was their "technology assistant" which meant I could sit down doing nothing, maybe helping the odd kid here and there, while they checked their emails.  The club turned out to be just a way to screw some unlucky kids out of $35 to sit in the library on slow macbooks using Codecademy, a free site.  Anyways one instance of idiocy was when one of the IT guys was showing a video about coding and it's importance.  The video was made by the creator of Scratch so it was full of scratch clips and projects.  After the video the IT guy said "So, you see, coding is all about creating things from scratch".  It's as if he was purposely TRYING to confuse the kids!  They had no idea what scratch was and I had to tell them what it was after he confused them sufficiently.  Another instance is when our lord and saviour GabeN was in a video telling about the importance of code and someone said "Wow I bet he does a lot of code he's so fat".  I simply put my head down and reflected upon how poorly educated this generation is.  One final example is on the first day, we had just started after getting everyone set up with accounts, and about five minutes in one kid started bashing the table with his fist and calling for help.  I came over to him and tried to hold in a laugh as I saw what he had written.  Instead of reading the instructions or the introduction (he was in the basic HTML and CSS course), he deleted the code that was there when you load the lesson and had written in it's place:

True very true .  However I fell it is very arrogant to never let anyone change your opinions for the rest of your life because you know (at 16) how you will feel for the rest of your life.

Anyway wildly non-technical so I will end this here.

Got a ticket from someone saying the printer isn't working and it's appearing as offline. I distinctly remember the person next to him telling me that they're taking the printer to some festival they're organizing.

Turns out they still haven't put the printer back. Apparently he didn't have the common sense to turn around and visually confirm the printer is actually there.
