Ever use CCFL's?  😄

Was gonna say....

One thing I much prefer about LED is they tend to be much less susceptible to cold than either of those 2.

My roommate asked why there were 4 separate whir sounds when I turned on my PC. I said that I had multiple hard drives and that was the sound of them spinning up as well as the graphics card's fan.

He said that with "so many hard drives I can download things really fast"

Thanks guys for understanding haha, nothing was taken as rude or anything and lol@ console peasant joke, I've called my dad that many times lol

as for the CFFL thing: this is the last build I used with one, and by this time I was building LED builds for friends, this was circa 2011 when my budget was way worse this was an antec 300 I modded to get any cable management done, but I was building watercooled builds for friends at the time, and had done my own watercooled builds years before. Back in this time, core processors could barely max out my CM hyper 212 hah, fast forward to today, and my waterloop adventure progressed because my dumb self got a 9900k, and conventional cooling wasn't working out for me very well, and I really don't like AIO's

These days, the waterloops are almost necessary for pushing performance the way I want. about to put the 3090 under water with an active cooled backplate as well! still debating my airflow paths and the third radiator lol. part of me wants to move my 240mm rad to a custom acrylic front panel to make it look like an intercooler for a car but I may have to get a new pump res combo for that to fit properly, currently looking at the 80mm EK D5 one for that. this damn thing won't stop being a headache even though temps are fine, I miss my 2070 super idling at 30c and maxxing out at 50c lol looking at 90C+ mem temps on this 3090 hurts my soul lol

I mean if they were in a raid array...kind of not wrong.

Got an interesting call the other day, user complained that their monitor was blurry so I asked them to send a photo on their phone of the display. The image on the screen was pretty much perfect based on the picture they sent me. Those calls are one of the worst... literally nothing else you can do other than hope they were using VGA and have them swap it for HDMI or DP.

Today someone told me that if I, and I quote, "Clear your browser history it deletes it from Google's servers so [the school network admins] can't see what you're doing"

Same person who said if you use Chrome on BlueStacks to look up things you're not supposed to on the school network it works like a VPN.

It's like a VPN, but instead of transferring data though layers of servers, it's transferring visual information though layers of OS's XD

A Trinitron wouldn't be 768p because CRTs take an interlaced signal

Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

I've got a 1366x768 early LCD monitor with VGA and a CCFL backlight...

I don't use it, it's thick, hot, heavy, and hurts my eyes

It was a Hanns.G monitor that came bundled with a prebuilt PC I got for Christmas in... 2009, if I recall right.

Wow, I used the same 768p monitor for 10 years...

The funny thing is, is that 1366x768 will become very mainstream in schools once the surface se comes out.

My i5-5200U equipped HP Envy has a 15.6" touch screen display with a resolution of 1366x768. Not the best combination.

1366x768 is already more than mainstream in schools. Lots of 11" Chromebooks have 768p displays, and it's fine at that size.

Yeah I know some schools opt for the crap screens. We usually go for 1920x1080 as all staff and students use the same laptops with the exception of the creatives and computing departments. (creatives use portable workstations and computing teachers get gaming laptops.)

I was thinking about K-12 here. I worked for the local district for a couple years, and all students had 11" Chromebooks.

Chromebooks are good for a school setting but mass deployment is hard. We get all our laptops off dell so we get them pre setup with windows autopilot.

This sounds like the laptop my employer sent me home with at the start of covid, except that it's 8th gen 🤯. For all but the most basic of tasks, it's pretty much unusable without using an external monitor. Most programs just assume you have at least 1080p of pixels, makes using anything less a real PITA. The washed out colours just add to my disdain for it.

today i had a man that after 20 mins of explanation on how his laptop was turning off after a couple hours of use because heat increases with long use and if it get too hot it shuts down to protect itself, he hits me with the argument that if that was the case computers wouldn't run in africa..... why do ppl always think they know better then the expert they sought out for help?? it dazzles me tbh
