Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?

Mitch

I managed to turn my computer off during a BIOS flash by accident... somehow it recovered

Also I spilt a large glass of lemonade all over my laptop

When I first started using computers for more than just writing/school I had no knowledge whatsoever about computers and changed my heatsink without putting thermal compound on and after that my computer would just beep. lol

Turned on my PC this morning to check my schdule for school, and I was apparently so tired, that I tried to turn down the fan noise from the GPU, with the volume slider in the bottom right on the taskbar. D:

Buying two 7970's on release in January 2012 for crossfire.

Initially I couldn't get xfire working until they updated the drivers about a month later, I also had a lot of crashing and other problems that meant I couldn't really play games. Then once I could play games the microstutter was unbearable. Posted to AMD support and just got angrier and angrier at myself for such an expensive GPU upgrade to basically not get to play any games. Eventually took them out and replaced with 680's and been much happier, but those 6 months with those 7970's was definitely my worst gaming experience ever.

This. Oh boy...... oh boy.

Also putting way too much thermal paste on the CPU. It was like putting icing on the cake, unfortunately it was literal not metaphorical. Needless to say the CPU temps wern't optimal.

Stuck a hard drive into a DVD drive. Man, that DVD drive had it coming. Now the DVD drive's guts are ripped out and used as a storage box in a drive bay.

Feel free to bash me all you want, but for me it has to be a CM Storm quickfire rapid keyboard w/ MX blues. The keyboard is definitely great as far as build quality and all, but the key feel is honestly nothing amazing, and despite having used it for nearly a year, I still type faster and more accurately on a chiclet keyboard.

:S, I like my Rapid Red, though I didn't like it at first I have become accustomed to it. I do regret buying my Havik 140, it was such a pain to put in, the backplate didn't want to fit properly and it is too big for my case. Had to bend a part of the side panel for it to fit.

wtf... why did your motherboard kill your hard drives? are you sure it was the cause?

My TI Nspire

my professor doesn't let us use calculators

TI calculators are so overpriced anyway. Casio masterrace. It's just that TI loves inflating prices because they know 90% of high school and college students are required to have TI-84 calculators etc.. so they charge 150$ for them.

Not really tech but the Battlefield 3 Premium DLC. Although I got it for only $7, I rarely play it because of the lack of good servers and because my cpu cannot handle the large maps with 64 players.

My modmic. I really just wanted a mic to go with my headphones, so I tried the snowball. Turns out I got one with a bad condenser, and I wasn't a huge fan of the variation in volume depending on how close I was leaning to my desk. After it got returned, I spend money for a modmic and even waited for a backorder. For the price, I was not pleased.
