Worst Tech mistake you have ever made?

Mitch

A few years ago, learning DOS, self-exploring by figuring out what 'del ^.^' was. I thought it was a happy face, and I didn't even think that del would mean delete. Oh, the tragedy. It seems so obvious now.

I just remembered one that is pretty bad, it isn't my fail but a fail I witnessed. It goes like this:

It was in my english class and my teacher was really bad with computers, she called me once to close Word, WORD *facepalm*, she also didn't know how to use the projector so she would handle the remote to someone in the front row.

So we were doing some exercises and she was on the computer doing her thing, normally looking up more exercises. She had left the projector on freeze so that we could do the exercise. This time she had given the remote to another person, let's call him Bob, Bob wasn't a good student, he had poor grades and bad behaviour. He thought he was really funny (he wasn't he was annoying as hell) so he decided to play a prank on the teacher and he took the projector out of freeze. He did it and instead of people yelling because the exercise was gone there was silence and a lot of faces like O.o  0.0 O.o, why? The teacher was watching p0Rn, she didn't realise what was going on until one guy just started laughing his *** off. So the teacher got suspended but not fired for some reason, she was my teacher the year after -.- .

She is also:

  1. The worst teacher in the school;
  2. The teacher that everyone, EVERYONE hates;
  3. The reason my school has p0Rn filters.

Destroying an 8 year old computer. Pretty simple it just starts beeping and nothing happens. And no, not the good beeps. i may have been modding it when it stopped working. Yet I still have a working 13 year old computer. I think I have a computer older than some people on this forums!

my dads HDD is 10 years old.. and according to a program it has been on for 5 years lol

Just two days ago my new 1tb HDD arrived home, just when i took out of the box it slides out of the wrapping bubble plastic and hit the ground. I've run crystaldiskinfo and it says that the drive it's ok, so maybe it's not so bad

On the other hand, I bought a prebuild system because I thought I could save some money. It had a i7 2600, 8gb of ram and a crappy gpu. My intention was to swap the gpu so i could have a nice rig. When i opened the case, it had a 300w psu and a slow as hell 5400rpm hdd... I ended up swapping everything except for motherboard, ram and cpu, even I had to swap case, because it had zero ventilation... So now I have a crappy h61 mobo and a non k i7 that costed me 600 EUR... I could buy a Asus ROG mobo and a i7 k with that money or maybe a better gpu..

So, never again i'm gonna buy a prebuild system.

RIG: i7 2600, Asus GTX660 OC, 120GB SSD, 1TB WD blue HDD, 1,5TB HDD, Corsair GS700w, Bitfenix Prodigy M.

So in fifth grade after lunch twice a week we'd go to "Roots and Wings" which was a gifted program. Since we were missing part of lunch and recess, we could take a small snack and even a drink to the class. Well I brought my chocolate milk with me and ended up spilling it right onto my teacher's keyboard. I had to scrub it for a long time, but thank God the computer still worked. Students at my old school now are not allowed to have food or drinks anywhere in the school besides the cafeteria, and that's partly my fault.

TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Buying my first laptop, I got a cheapish Samsung with Vista while 7 was already out because 'I didn't like it's design' and I could've gotten a better one for the same price, god what an idiot I was.

The most stupid mistake I've made recently was when I put in my 2nd 7950. I completely forgot to plug my rear exhaust fan back in, and I left it unplugged for about 2 weeks. I was really confused as to why both GPUs were idling at 60ish degrees when I had the fans pinned at 65%....I HAD NO EXHAUST! :P

BF4 would make my pc hardlock and I was too stupid to realize that my back fan was unplugged. I noticed when I was judging the amount of room I have for a potential h80i purchase when I saw that my only exhaust fan wasn't spinning.....

  • 3 weeks later...

My friend tried to install a h100 onto his CPU by himself. He screwed one side in all the way before the other side, so the pressure became uneven. He was surprised when his PC didnt POST. He took out the CPU and half the socket pins are bent. So he takes a knife and bends them back, puts the CPU back in and it works........

I look forward to the day karma bites him in the ass. :rolleyes:

P.S. he overclocked his CPU to 4.6ghz with 1.5 volts... dumb

I remember pulling the stock AMD heatsink off. I looked at the mobo and there was no processor in the socket... I had to use a screwdriver to get it off of the stock heatsink.

after I read this I was like, what how is that even possible??? (thinking it was intel with their lock pin thing) Had to read it 4 times to realize you wrote AMD.

I think I'm tired...
