One thing you need to know first: my parents didn't allow me to work on "new" PCs, so I managed to get one free, and fill it up with stuff from eBay and local thrift stores.

One day I wanted to swap out my GeForce FX 5200 with a GeForce 6600 GT. I wanted to put the FX 5200 back in (the 6600 GT had broken caps, bad display), and I dropped it on the floor. No physical damage seen, but it doesn't work anymore.

So, I had to dig into my old part supply and found a GeForce2 GTS full with cobwebs, dead spiders and dust. I wiped it off, and it worked as if it was brand new. I later ran a 1080p video on it (do not try to run higher than 360p video on there, it will lag a lot).

Buying an GeForce GT 610 to replace outdated integrated graphics in my PC. I could've waited two weeks and payed 20 euros extra for a GeForce GT 630, but I insisted on getting a new GPU. Then, my IRL friend saw "I was online, while my PC was still at the store". The dude who was supposed to install my GT 610 was playing Left 4 Dead 2.

That, and I got a classic Voodoo2 stuck in a PCI slot.

And killed an entire motherboard + CPU by overloading the integrated GPU.

That was back when crappy Vista computers costed 1500 euros.

Laptop: Intel Core i5-4200H, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, GeForce 840M

Desktop: Intel Core i3-6100, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, GeForce GTX 750 Ti

A pin on my sata power cable got bent somehow. I stuck a screw driver in to bend it back to its original position. Thats when I realized I never turned off the power supply.

Here's one I just did yesterday: Had the laptop apart, cleaning out all the dust and re-applying new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. Somehow I damaged the proprietary SATA cable (broke a wire on one connector) and now have to track down a new one. ugh.. :P

It was off some heap of junk pc from years back

I think he has an 8350 and 270x in it xD

He had a minor budget and reused the case. Was using an OEM powersupply that came with it too and looked like it was about to explode.

This guy on twitch who was streaming GTA 5 on console at 30fps, claiming that it was 60 despite of that because he was streaming it at 60. Also people buying "premium" 100 dollar+ HDMI cables (Yes, yes it really happens). (Really it really does happen.)

Well you might get poor cooling but a minty smell in your pc!

Actually I remember seeing a test of different thermal pastes once where they also tested toothpaste. If I remember correctly it actually performed quite well, but the problem was that it dried up in a matter of minutes.

But the case is blocking a lot of the airflow.

Didn't know I had windows updates to install next time I booted, and I had just installed my new graphics card and did a test boot in the other room without a monitor to make sure power was working, had to force shut off, came back later and OS was half ruined. Could still use it, but it crashed when installing drivers. Took me two days to figure out what it was.
