Music company attempts to DMCA Skype, AMD and 93 other downloads

ahhming

A German music company has attempted to claim copyright on some of the world’s most popular downloads, including Skype, AMD drivers, Linux and many more.

Total Wipes Music Group, attempted to target some of the biggest companies around.
In an effort to ‘protect’ the album “In To The Wild- Vol 7″, Total Wipes sent one massive DMCA takedown notice to Google, covering a total of 95 URLs, none of which have anything to do with music. Each URL just appears to be a download page for widely popular software and services.

The takedown notice itself claims that Total Wipes Music Group has an exclusive and worldwide deal for distributing all content found on the list. The main point to take away from this is that the DMCA system is often abused and there are rarely any consequences. There either needs to be an entirely new system implemented or companies need to start being held accountable for false claims.

What is worrying is that Total Wipes Music Group doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon, TorrentFreak had a dig around and found that the company is filing multiple notices almost every single day. Google does reject most of them but something may end up slipping through the cracks eventually.

What could you possibly have to gain from doing this? The claims aren't going to go through and it's a big waste of time.

So many pieces of vital software that I use on daily basis or have used in the past working as a Sysadmin. Like...really? Like, are you SERIOUSLY expecting Google to actually block those URL's?

And let's just say, hypothetically, what if Google does this. They block all of those URL's. What do you think WhatsApp (Facebook), FileZilla, Ubuntu, Zend, VmWare, Dropbox, etc is going to do? Just sit at their desks twiddeling their tumbs goin 'Oh well, we had a nice run here', or do you expect them to sue Google and your own arse because you have just single handedly destroyed entire companies (might be a bit of an overstatement, but I'm sure a couple of the smaller guys might miss some serious revenue streams).

I think this comment infringes copyright too they might take it down.

This is why SOPA/PIPA/ACTA were shot down, all these parasyte claims would have completely ruined the internet and would have been a mess for a long time until laws got reworked.

They want to be recognized.

Only way you get recognized by Westerners is to be a odd Korean with silly words and a silly dance.

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. Seems to be a somewhat typical thing for the German music industry. They always have strange ideas. For example the whole stupidness between Google/YouTube and the rights organisation "GEMA". Most music videos are blocked and you cannot even watch livestreams on YouTube D:

Apart from it being a publicity stunt, I don't understand what this has to do with their shitty album, "In To The Wild- Vol 7".

Can somebody further dumbify this for me?

So basically, they claimed copyright on every URL with "download" in it without even checking what the pages contain?

There's stupid, and then there's this.

Well, the music industry was the hardest hit by the internet.  Something like a 40% drop in cd revenue since the first MP3 sharing site came online.  What this actually equates to in real world dollars/business is probably not that well understood, but you can bet your arse it's a good portion of the reason we now have fewer record labels and a lot more manufactured bands/radio playlists.

Actually I think you'll find the opposite to be true,  this is the retaliation to broken copyright.
