Fixstars launches 3TB SSD!

Fixstars Corp. has launched what it claims to be the highest capacity 2.5-inch SATA SSD. The Japanese firm, with offices in Silicon Valley, mainly runs its business around softwareicon1.png parallelization/optimization solutions, so it is a little surprising to see this name on an SSD hardware product, out of the blue. However yesterday it announced the start of sales of its 3TB SSD-3000M, and 1TB SSD-1000M, in North America. The drives were apparently launched in Japan last November.

Since Samsung is doing stacked NAND-flash now, I think Samsung's capacities will go up as well when they start to scale their NAND down again.

I still can't find SSDs larger than 1 TB except those uber expensive Intel 1.6 TB ones.

Edit: Base price of 990 USD for the 1 TB model + tax?

Ufukinwotm9? performance and redundancy aside, it's not 2009 anymore! :/

who cares...

I'm not buying any new SSDs until the next revision of sata. If i remember correctly it'll be 17gb/s

Can you imagine 1.7GB/s sata SSD?

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

Higher capacity SSD's is always a good thing. Though, the current SATA interface is in some serious need of being re-hauled. Most SSD's these days are maxing out the throughput, so the main difference between them is the price.

Cool. I'm curious how much storage can they put in that form factor. But yeah, we need new interface for such large drives.

Quite a bit. I don't have a link, but I think I saw an image that showed that Samsung 850 Pros PCB did not take up all of the 2.5" formfactor

I really hope that there's a big push for high capacity SSDs. I'm hoping to get a cheap (relative to the current prices) 500GB-1TB SSD later this year on a Black Friday deal.

Launched in Japan last November. I bet SSDs are cheap there, maybe I'll pay my cousin for a 1Tb one.

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P
If it's not broken, take it apart and fix it.

Why isn't 3.5" SSDs a thing at all? I get portability and laptops and whatnot but if there were 3.5" SSDs for desktops and servers then capacity could easily be 3-4x what we could achieve now with no exponential cost increase on the manufacturer.

There's no need for it. SSDs as they are have tons of romm left in their enclosures
