MSI are ridiculous with their amount of 970's

MSI have just shown off their two "new" 970's at CES, with the only real differences being the paint job and the cooler. Both cards have the same PCB design as each other which is the same design as the normal gaming and the gold edition. Nothing is new. 

 
 
I'd have to say I'm disappointed. EVGA released a lot of cards but at least their PCB had a few variations. So friends, save your pennies and use a can of spray paint if you don't like the colour cause you aren't gonna get any better performance or headroom with these new models. Its still up to the silicon lottery.

Why high refreshrate monitors look better even without Freesync/G-sync in one image.

The gold one they did I thought was really quite nice, shame it is so expensive in Canada.

 

Although I honestly have no issue with this, the other cooler.. I don't really see the point?  But, I'm not sure I am disappointed.  Honestly, I don't want to see more $900 - 1000 versions of cards, that so so few people will actually be able to afford.

personally i dont really like either of them.

as for the option of color, plastidip and paint has been around for quite some time now.

For the love of graphics cards, make a good looking blue themed card! Not one with a simple blue MSI logo, I want one like the green card except with blue replacing the green parts!

Honestly I bet just changing the stock thermal past on the Krait edition 970 would get the same performance as the normal gaming edition. So as a upside they are making a good PCB cheaper. IMO this is great for those looking to watercool or extreme overlock these cards if they are getting rid of the stock cooler. Though I doubt that the 100 ME 970 is going to be the same price as the normal gaming. MSI will surprise me if they don't put a markup on it. And just take a can of paint or air brush your card. You can get much cooler looks and its fun as well.

That green one looks awesome! I'm glad the did this. So many red, black, gray and yellow cards (even blue) but no green, purple, orange etc.
