Vitaly Milonov, Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, and notable homophobe, on Thursday said he wants a lifetime prohibition on Cook's entrance into Russia.

"What could be bring us? The Ebola virus, AIDS, gonorrhea? They all have unseemly ties over there," Milonov told the Flashnord website, according to Buzzfeed's translation. "Ban him for life."

 

 

 

The Russian government, meanwhile, uses LGBT rights as a wedge issue to highlight its opposition of Western democracy, Buzzfeed said. Local officials, including Milonov, often carry iPhones and iPads, but the St. Petersburg MP recently condemned the iPhone 6 as too vulnerable to U.S. spying.

This isn't really new. A lot of notable gay people have been banned from entering Russia, for a variety of reasons.

Even if they entered, they could be arrested for promoting (or being neutral) gay issues.

Apple will probably make more money from the gay population that saw the announcement as another empowering act towards gays, then they will make from Russian market.

This was just another PR move to go viral, all of this was taken into account and measured (cultural and religious impacts)... I'm not saying he isn't gay, but it's something personal that shouldn't be making news. Anyway, imagine if he was black gay orphan, raised by asians who went to fight Ebola after helping the Native Americans win some sort of legal dispute. You go Apple.
