So A.S is claiming that the person who threatened her said they were affiliated with Gamer Gate.

I don't think death threats are appropriate, not at all. But both sides are getting ridiculous.

 

About halfway down the page is a torrent of tweets, some saying GG is cult that threatens death on it's critics, some just saying they don't want to be threatened. All over something that I'm going to say has a 50% chance of being a lie. 

 

Even if it is true that they claimed association with Gamer Gate, so what? They're a radical. I have a perfect example, but I better word it carefully. Sometimes Muslims are all thought to be terrorists. IDK about where you guys live, but sometimes in younger peoples minds that is a problem with people I meet where I live, from time to time. However, as we all know, this is not true. Most Muslims are fine, I actually used to be friends with some. The ones that associate themselves with terrorism are "radicals", much like the person who threatened death on A.S.

 

Again, if it's true. 

 

Now, obviously I'm a little "worked up" over this. Why you may ask? 

 

BECAUSE I'M TIRED OF GAMERS BEING MISREPRESENTED IN THE MEDIA, THAT'S WHY.

Gamergate, first coined by actor Adam Baldwin, is an amorphous campaign that is ostensibly about ethics in video game journalism and defending the "gamer" identity but has come under fire for its links to a wave of harassment, particularly of women, in gaming.

Now as we all know, the media is always kinda retarded and tends to warp things. Which means that when this comes up in the news, which I think it will, they will twist it out of proportion yet again to fight against gamers/videogames. Much like the Violent Videogames make you Violent thing.

 

Anyways, this whole thing has blown up. I'm afraid A.S couldn't stop it even if she wanted to.

 

I'm tired, I'll edit some more thoughts into it later.

This entire thing has just been incredibly frustrating to sift through. Death threats are never ok, but it seems that Anita has been caught lying in the past regarding this sort of behaviour if I recall correctly (I think it was a thunderfoot video).

I would instantly say the logic behind stating "supporting gamergate supports misogyny (because of the supposed actions of a minority)" is immensely flawed.

The gamergate movement wants gaming journalism that isn't screwed over with bias.

Quite a lot of information but the gist of it is gaming journalism has been caught in a back alley doing shady crap and promoting games of people they may have a personal connection to. Most notable example is Zoe Quinn and she's a whole other can of worms that would take long to get into.

This woman is Anita Sarkesian who had a successful kickstarter to make videos about why games are sexist. Despite the large sum of money she received, the videos are of a poor quality with not much research.

The gamergate movement began to gain momentum and ask for transparency in gaming journalism, however the concerns were dismissed as being just misogynistic.

There was also the issue of a lot of online gaming publications making the same article on the same day, about how gamers are dead or something.

I was just providing TLDR for those unaware. I totally agree with you on Anita BUT

I still do believe we need to actively seek and rat out corrupt journalistic practices. Enough retards are eating all of it up, totally unaware, similar to those who do nothing but subscribe to one news outlet (such as BBC, FOX, AL JAZEERA) and are of consequence 'fed' information, leading to unwarranted bias. We cannot simply ignore these issues, because it has become so deeply entrenched within our societies (referring to all journalism, not just gaming). If we tell those already under the grips of these outlets to 'ignore' them, what will be the response? Probably a "why? What these outlets are propounding is correct and unbiased!". We constant action and exposure of these corrupt practices, not a few sparks here and there (similar to the current Chinese premier Xi Jing-ping claiming to be 'rooting out corruption' when really it is a program based on tokenism). 

And if the mods ban me for this post, then I know that LinusTechTips has also fallen to the grips of the snake. I want to help spread awareness of corruption not only in gaming journalism (which is somewhat of a joke now), but in all entities: government, media, corporate sector.

Remove corruption, become enlightened.
