Apple and IBM today announced an exclusive partnership that teams the market-leading strengths of each company to transform enterprise mobility through a new class of business apps—bringing IBM’s big data and analytics capabilities to iPhone and iPad.

• a new class of more than 100 industry-specific enterprise solutions including native apps, developed exclusively from the ground up, for iPhone and iPad;

• unique IBM cloud services optimized for iOS, including device management, security, analytics and mobile integration;
new AppleCare service and support offering tailored to the needs of the enterprise; and
new packaged offerings from IBM for device activation, supply and management.

The new IBM MobileFirst for iOS solutions will be built in an exclusive collaboration that draws on the distinct strengths of each company: IBM’s big data and analytics capabilities, with the power of more than 100,000 IBM industry and domain consultants and software developers behind it, fused with Apple’s legendary consumer experience, hardware and software integration and developer platform. The combination will create apps that can transform specific aspects of how businesses and employees work using iPhone and iPad, allowing companies to achieve new levels of efficiency, effectiveness and customer satisfaction—faster and easier than ever before.

As part of the exclusive IBM MobileFirst for iOS agreement, IBM will also sell iPhones and iPads with the industry-specific solutions to business clients worldwide.

fused with Apple’s legendary consumer experience

Not in Australia,  consumer affairs had to the force them to honor basic warranties.

Strange...they don't have to do that here and we barely have consumer protection laws at all.

They're just a company like any other when it comes to this sort of thing.

Most people have little issue with warranty claims  through most companies, but every now and then a company will pull a stunt like this to try and avoid payouts.

That's not really true, they have the highest customer satisfaction here and their support people are far more helpful than most other manufacturers. They even sent me a new power brick when the TSA confiscated my old one. (don't ask) Steve Jobs himself had a history of minute benevolences, sometimes if you emailed him with a complaint he would have a new product sent to your door with a $500 iTunes gift card.

The Genius Bar, for example, is far more lenient about their warranty. They replaced my 31-day old iPhone 5S for free even though I was technically out of the AppleCare+ purchasing period.

That's the way it is for most companies.  I guess when consumer laws are lax in a country less people claim and therefore apple doesn't need to try and get out of as much as they can.  I don't understand 31 days? don't you have a standard 12month warranty.  In Aus the the length of time for a warranty is determined by consumers affairs and is based on the purchase price, so a $600 phone or a phone on a 2 year contract will more than likely be good for 18 to 24 months.     within that time it has to be a brand new replacement or full money back including any postage costs incurred.

You get 30 days after the initial purchase to buy AppleCare+ which covers accidental damage to the device twice. I dropped it and shattered the glass inserts on the back.

I don't know, it's certainly strange, though in this country we are actively removing "restrictions" on corporations, not creating them.

I can't wait for the iPhone 6 though, that thing is going to be damn nigh indestructible. :P

Not in Australia,  consumer affairs had to the force them to honor basic warranties.

It is not that they were not honouring warranties, just pretty much everywhere else in the world it is 12 months, and the staff were trained that way and offered applecare to extend it to 3 years

Apple just had to change their standard free warranty to be 24 months

Hardly means they give bad service >< and now you get 2 years unlike most countries

In the UK manufacturers must provide 12 months manufacturers warranty, BUT strangely, we have the sales of goods act that states a product should be good for up to 6 years after purchase, with a right to a replacement in the first 6 months providing the fault was present during this time. After 6 months you need an engineer to report that it was a manufacturer defect for replacement or you can get a free warranty repair, after 12 months its basically  up to the consumer to prove that the device was defective and not broken by the consumer.

Anyway, its odd haha

It is not that they were not honouring warranties,

It was, they were actually lying to customers and refusing to replace or repair faulty products:

"Apple has been lying to consumers about its obligation to replace or repair faulty computers, iPhones, iPads and iPods, but has now promised to retrain staff and reassess claims stretching back two years following action by the competition watchdog."

Apple and its suppliers told Australian consumers they were only entitled to what Apple wanted to offer them when products failed

Lack of training/knowledge/arrogance of regional warranty laws

However that has changed now, so you cannot say they are not honouring warranties, they have been ever since Apple was forced to adopt the ruling. And obviously they honour apple care claims too.

They even opened up old claims for 90 days to be reassessed for people that were refused repairs

Its shitty, but It has been fixed, and they know have this page up on their website for all to see

http://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/

They still only offer 1 Year Apple care but NOT at the exclusion of the Australian law

Somebody said "apples amazing customer support" and you said that it want, because they did not honour basic warranties in Australia which is no longer true

I just wanted to clear it up for people looking at apple products in Australia that they now are, and you can expect usual levels of support in line with Apple standards  :)

By usual levels of support I assume you mean the same standard as all other companies.   Apple are not the amazing all caring after sales service provider people make out, and we shouldn't be promoting that fallacy any more than people should be promoting any other fallacy with any other brand.

This is not a shit dig on apple, you can find just as many stories on all the other brands, this is just to show that apples consumer service is not necessarily better than any other company.

More examples:

From personal experience, working in electronics retail for 8 years, I can tell you they are pretty outstanding. Their telephone service is fantastic, I had countless customers come in thanking me for recommending Apple or for selling them Applecare and then recommending their friends come see me to buy a mac/ipad with applecare because of the service they received.

They have also won more awards for customer service than any other company

Do they lie sometimes? sure, do they balls things up? of course, but they are still a cut above the majority of manufacturers/retails when it comes to warranty, servicing and support

Some random example

Is it 100% amazing all the time? HELL NO...... but is it really good and better than most? Yup

Obviously do not trust them, they are a company out for your money just like any other, but they tend to be nice

Again, not better than anyone else, depending what criteria you search for you can find studies to support whatever your position:

These awards swing around yearly, one year it's apple the next it's Samsung the year after that it's Heinz baked beans.  At the end of the day they are just as good (or bad depending on your view) as everyone else.

Again, not better than anyone else,

I see what you are saying, though I still think being in the top 5 or 10 retailers/manufactures is an outstanding achievement for anyone, be it HTC, Samsung, Chocolate Jesus or anything (I hope that is a real company) and still represents great service, I have never seen them at the bottom of the table.

Anyway :)

Well BB were the business phone of the decade in my opinion during 2007-2009/10. Blackberry aren't so great right now and most users joined apple during 2011 from BB.

Blackberry's been doomed for a while now, business's have been moving to both iOS and Android over the past few years anyway due to the range of applications etc, this merge, in my opinion is just giving iOS a much stronger enterprise footing that it's already been rapidly moving into.
