What do people hate about Apple?

hambobolubia

I have no problem with the performance on their devices as they seem to be made with the same quality and care as their competitors but what I don't like is the following.

1. Most of their parts are integrated

2. They don't have the same level of 3rd party programs as PC

3. They're shittier than a PC for gaming

4. I do not like any of the OS's at all, I've had to use them before and I just think they're plain bad

5. They over price the shit out of their products

6. The fact that every apple device has the exact same look as all the others. Not similar or signature look but the exact same.

7. Their phones aren't as customizable as my droid and don't look as neat

8. Their business practice of releasing a new version of itself every single year rather than waiting 2 years or so for an even better and more reasonably priced version to be released

9. Most of the people I've met IRL who own Apple and claim to be techies are less technologically inclined as my father who is 50 (Then again he's been teaching himself how to not be retarded when it comes to computers so he gets to enjoy todays tech)

10. For some reason I just straight never liked the company from the start. Something about them set my hate-o-meter into the red and I'm perfectly willing to admit that some degree of my hatred is illogical

Knowledge is power, guard it well.

Hey, if you need some competition...

I also know a few others who think the same way as us.

No competition- we can all work together to make the world a grammatically better place.

Cue puppies and rainbows.

Actually because the blue part should be titled "because non tech savvy people worship apple for no reason thinking that the hardware and technology behind it is superior in every damn way" a colleague of mine is like that, he says his apple air is so much better than my laptop while he has a 1.5 GHz i5 and 4 gb of ram. I have a 2.5 GHz i5 and 8 GB of ram, he told me to do a boot up and start tasking performance test. I won. SSHD's are amazing little things, Macs have flash storage which makes them seem to boot faster. I won his little race and he's just like "yeah but my apple just cost $1500 (give or take) and he goes on that I probably payed a lot more for mine and he goes on saying that all the computers at work should be changed into macs regardless of the hardware inside and they will perform even better. This is what pisses me off about apple, its consumers, nothing else really. If I could get a Mac Pro 2013 for free or for a great deal, I'd buy it and load windows on it simply because I prefer the interface and I do in fact game as well as use programs that do not natively support mac OSX

A baseline MacBook air is $899, and until recently was $999, not $1500. Adding 50% to the price goes a little beyond 'give or take,' eh?

Apple did not invent the touchscreen phone. It had been done a dozen times previously, all the way back to 1992.

Simon-the-first-smartphone.png

The same can be said of the MP3 player, Siri and just about anything apples ever made . They just did the best job at marketing it and dumping that revenue into R&D to improve on it steps ahead of any competition, creating a brand that can "reinvent" and sell just about anything.

Using that example, you must admit that one of the first commercially available capacitive touchscreens is a little more advanced than what's in the image- of course there had been touchscreens as a principle, but not many in the style, quality, and usefulness that Apple engineered. Couple that with an OS that made full use of it, and turned it into more than a gimmick, and it's safe to say that they may have lain a brick or two in the road to how we see touchscreens today. (Wow, that was a terrible metaphor).

i hate most of the people who blindly like macs for no reason(which is most non-tech people), every non-tech person I know just defaults to thinking that ALL macs have quad gtx titans and somehow 1tb of RAM and think they need that to browse facebook

I'm a pretty huge techie, and despite the knowledge that I could get a $1000 PC that's marginally faster than standard $1000 Mac, I still choose them- you don't have to be a 'sheep' to use and enjoy Apple's gear, and no one thinks that they are super-powerful machines. Also, 1TB of RAM is nigh impossible with today's technology. But, I get your point :P

This example is a stretch but it is from 15 years before the iphone. There are a number of other examples that are closer and closer to the iphone as you progress through time, but I totally agree that apple were the first to do it right for consumers. It's like I said, they didnt come up with the touch screen, or even the idea of putting it in a phone, they just did it well enough to have it catch fire on the market.

Apple has Invented things. Like a touchscreen phone. Or the tablet.

Microsoft invented the touch screen tablet, Samsung designed it better, and then Apple marketed it. They didn't invent it, they were just better at marketing. That is their ingenuity, marketing.

If you had to compare Apple to actual inventors, Apple would be more like a chef. A chef often times doesn't create or invent, just combines or adds onto. Apple will see an idea, take (steal?) it, and then improve upon it. The iPhone and iPad existed as other ideas and products long before Apple did.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Yeah, that's true. But as a final point, speaking between iOS and Android, the early versions of Android (around 2008-2009) had absolutely no support for touchscreens. It wasn't until after the iPhone launched that they scrambled to make phones with them, which led to how Android has always had a bit of a sub-par touchscreen response, as an integral part of iOS is how as soon as your finger touches the screen, all available resources are instantly used to give responsive feedback, and track your finger quickly. In Android, the touchscreen interpretation layer was a bit of an afterthought (and they've never really rewritten the OS to give it priority as it should have), so when you touch the screen, it's not the phone's highest priority to track and give instant feedback. One of the biggest things iOS does right- the momentum-based scrolling, where moving something will have it keep scrolling as if it were being pushed, and bouncing when it hits the end of a page, is something Android desperately needs, as the scrolling there is harsh and lifeless.

Not to say Android is terrible- I've used it extensively, but it just doesn't feel as polished to me. However, L might change a few things, and I'm excited to try it on my Moto G.

Sorry for the rant, but I just woke up and have a lot of energy.

WHOA! No need for name calling- that was my mistake. One of my friends (In Brazil) actually took a plane to NYC, stayed in a hotel for two nights, bought a PS4, took a plane back, and in all, it was still way under the price of shipping a PS4 there, with import taxes, currency adjustment, and all that crap. I know the feels.

most non techies do. surround yourself with more people and you'll notice it too and get a little pissed off at the fanboyism, like I said, I don't really mind owning an apple product, I just dislike the majority of their fanbase.

so insulting someone without using a term to "name call" someone but using words to imply something similar is fine? Smartass isn't even much of an insult, the only thing it implies to me is that I'm letting you know that you were too quick to judge.

and yeah, tax and shipping is a pain.

Just an add here, you can't even compare an apple laptop or desktop with something within the same price range in South Africa, if you live in SA and buy apple laptops or desktops it is simply fanboying, these things get driven through the roof when it comes to pricetags.

Simple.

Apple makes terrible Software/OS on all their platforms

their computers cost anywhere between 3 to 10 times the actual hardware value

Except their mobile hardware, that is great but ruined by the terrible software/OS

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P

From personal experience the only advantage I've ever seen aside from build quality (but even then, you can't upgrade most of them unless you have a mac pro) is the fact they run more reliably without errors on Avid software.

There are a lot of people who can't simply admit that Google Windows and Apple are all good they like to fanboy which is stupid and makes you not want to try out different things I personally use a LG G2 with cm11 as my phone I got it over a 5s simply because android for phone works better for me but for tablets I think iPad works better. Also android would be around even if iPhone didn't come out, you're basically saying somebody would not know how to invent a full glass touchscreen phone also LG Prada came before iPhone and looked like it .. In terms of macs vs windows macs are expensive but some people just like using them more and are paying the extra price it

Honestly it's just down to personal preference. I think the build quality and ascetics of apple products are top notch and some people like the OS. However I think the price to performance with some of their products is terrible, especially with their laptops.

In this day and age, when we can scour the net for just about all the information we need to educate ourselves, why do people still believe marketing hype?

there are many products that look like current smartphones that were all released before the iphone yet people still believe the iphone was the first.  There are court cases proving swipe to unlock was a feature on smartphones before apple. In fact it's only in the US that apple patents are upheld, in nearly every other country sufficient evidence exists to throw the patent complaints out of the court.

Android was started in 2003, google bought it 2005 and started turning it into a fully fledged smartphone OS,  LG's prada had full touchscreen before the iphone release,  so did neonode (not capacitive but it was 2003).

The neonode was released in 2003:

Apples strength is in marketing, that's the main reason why they are so popular.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
