The World's Largest Video Game Collection Is Up For Sale

DoubleY

Michael Thommason, who is certified as having the world's largest collection of video games, is putting them up for sale. Meaning the buyer isn't just getting a ton of games, they're getting a title as well.

Guinness confirmed Thommason had 10,607 games last year, but he's since picked up a few hundred more, so the winning bidder will be getting over 11,000 video games.

How did he even find a space for them in the first place. You would pretty much need another house for a collection like that.

Question is, will anyone be interested in buying all of those games whole sale. And how will he determine the total value? There must be many rare games in his collection. This will be a difficult bundle to sell. He might have to give it away for less than its worth or sell it piece by piece.

I bet some dumb mother trucker will buy it. Just because they have so much money they don't know what to do with it.

No kidding.

I forgot to include this in OP, can't be bothered editing it in:

If you're wondering about the condition the games are in, Thommason says "2600+" are "factory shrink-wrapped", while "over 8,300" are complete with box and manual.

I'm pretty sure as well, this collection could go for for hundreds of thousands of bucks, there might even be a chance if he has very rare sealed games that it will go in the millions.

So he's giving up his dream because his wife doesn't like video games?

That is what people seem to be jumping to the conclusion of. What if his wife got cancer and they need the money to pay the medical bills? I don't see anywhere in the article describing exactly why he has to sell them, just that he has family matters that require him selling them.

This is like the indiscriminate spending that goes on during Steam Summer Sale, only worse, but without the Summer sale, or Steam for that matter.

I'll give you 5$.

I'm sure he'd go for that, provided there are 110,000 $5 bills.

I potentially have 1969267647 games. Just download each one from torrents. I have world Guinness record! :D
