is turning off your PC right after gaming bad?

It just occurred to me, let's say i played a game and then i decided to stop so i close the game and turned off the PC. The components like the GPU and CPU are still hot and when turning the PC off, so does the fans. Is it bad to do that? Do i let the PC cool down first?

Components cool down pretty darn fast, within a minute or 2 they can fall back down to pretty low temps you should be fine really, probably as you quickly check your email and say bye to your mates its probably dropped down fast

Don't think so, when you turn off the computer all electrical current stops thus heat can't be generated and ambient temperature will cool down everything

No the GPU isn't going to get any hotter when you shut the system off because its not doing any work and the heat sinks will just disperse the heat without the aid of a fan

Electrical current keeps components at a certain idle temp, once you remove electric, it no longer functions, much like a dead person, cold to the bone.

Nah son electricity stops, heat stops. Besides some computers will keep their fans going just a few more seconds to make sure things stay cool.

You can watch any Temp software..As soon as you quit the game, temps drop almost instantly. By the time it shuts down, you're at idle temps.

No, you should be good. I wouldn't worry about it, because the fans are there only to keep the temp. from going up while the components are under load, not cool them when not under load.

No,but some companies do install useless features that keep the fan spinning for a couple minutes after shutdown to make people think that it's a real issue. All and all it won't really matter and if anyone says that it will make sure they don't work for a GPU company..

i believe the card will cool down faster without it being active, if you're still worried,  remove one side panel afterwards for a few minutes.

No as after I finish playing a game my temperatures for my GPU and CPU quite quickly to normal operating temperatures so it will be fine turning it off after a gaming session.

Your PC still has passive cooling, so no, it will be fine.

You could test this to see what happens when pc goes through boot cycle. During heavy stress hit reset button. It doesn't do any harm since its general OC prodecure anyway. After boot go into BIOS and see what temps it lists to CPU and GPU (or just CPU). Those are as close to temps you PC has ~10s after shutdown.

No, turning it off right after gaming isn't a problem at all.

 

Thermal cycling would be a problem though. So as long as you're not doing this every 5 minutes you're fine.

To answer your question, some manufacturers ahve fans slowly turn off after powering down so that they vent the extra heat away.  Linus mentioned this in the ASUS Sabertooth video a while ago, he also mentioned that it really didn't matter.  So while it does matter, like you wouldn't want to go from 95 degrees on the cores to pulling the plug, closing the game and shutting down will be totally fine.

It shouldn't have any negative effects. Once you turn off your PC it cuts power to the components and thus they are no longer generating heat. Which means the temperature cannot exceed what it is at the moment you power off the PC.

In the moment you close a game, the cpu and gpu will drop 5-15 degrees depending on your ambient-temperature and what your load temps are. People always stress over temps damaging components, but unless you hit 95 celsius and get thermal throttling or hit 105 and the BIOS/UEFI settings allow for an emergency shutdown, you wont really risk damaging anything. 7 or 8 years ago most of us had a gpu that ran at around 80-90 degrees on load and they lasted ages.
