There's No WAY This Can Be Legit!!!

Jaethan

Okay, I was just watching a YouTube video that had a rather strange sponsor - And I Must Know The Truth!!! (lmao)

Their product is called StopWatt, and they claim it can reduce your power bills by up to 90%! They also say "Over 2 Million StopWatts Sold Worldwide" and that it's "The #1 Selling Power Factor Correction Device!"

Screenshot_20230111_122124_Firefox.thumb.png.66313f3c7c0a57a0f1d17d72e03c4034.png

This little device is the size of 2 or 3 decks of cards -- at the Most -- and can apparently reduce your power bill by removing "Dirty Electricity" from your home, and all you have to do is leave it plugged into a power outlet - indefinitely!

1177289282_img-6-7282.jpg.98c5c543b9cb6c2453961e27a5b81d3c.jpg

Hmmm . . . Yup, that's Exactly how big my ego was when I was a toddler.

Electricity Stabilizing Technology, you say...

1992055341_gallery-slide-32.jpg.356045e1248a4240d4312880e41e6d82.jpg

The thing is, the website is a MASSIVE Red Flag that's made out of tiny little Red Flags - made from Recycled Red Flags!

img-7-728.webp.4d266dd4632dd60e9f3d00e11225df61.webp

Nope! No no no no No Noo NOOO! Electricity doesn't work like that! Linus: this product was made for you to take appart and expose it's secrets to the World! 😄

(P.S. Can you show us -- or just me -- how to make a Computer Cluster? You've got all that tech just sitting there doing nothing, and a bunch of fans -- or just me -- that would probably Love to see how to build our own Clouds and data processors. I've got a couple of PS3's I could give you on top of what you've already got, if it'll help. lmao)

just the fact that you have to plug in the device can already mean it actually can do the opposite

I got an improved version of this in my little girls room, gives some light so that it's not completely dark. I mean I haven't noticed less power being used, and also they didn't claim it would reduce things. But they both give light when plugged in.

I guess I just have a hard time imagining they've sold more than a dozen of these useless devices - At The Most. Hell, "R&D", advertising, bribes, kickbacks, ancient oaths . . . . these all cost money to properly execute - which means they're ripping off A LOT of people!

That's why I want Linus to do an episode featuring this item and 4 or 5 other scams "Just Like This" to illustrate how many bogus items like this are making people Rich.

This Must End! And, I just want to see what's inside. Ha ha ha

listen here Jimmy boy, the secret can be told only to few people

so listen carefully

the advice I'm giving you, can only be accessed when you take your Mommy's creddit card and go to this website [website] and fill in the information

after that, the website will reveal all the marketing secrets and more

but hurry, only few people can know this and there's only 20 spots left

All it'll have inside is a capacitor and something to power the LED on the front. It will do literally nothing for a home user since power factor correction isn't anything to worry about outside of more industrial settings.

Like everyone else has told you, this is a scam. It's all BS marketing that's designed to make you buy the product, and they hope that by the time it arrives and you plug it in you'll forget about it and won't care to get your money back. It's useless.

Good old snakeoil...

The only way to cut your power bill.... Is to either actually reduce your consumption... Or fiddle with your meter to steal electricity, which is illegal and they WILL find you sooner or later.

hold your seats, dirty power generate more toxic blue light, that disturb your brain chip waves from connecting to the 6g overlords.

dont watch, if you care about your own health. dont worry about the bit about installing it in every room and 100 dollars each.

else just think if you use AC or DC electricity? also why not just install a battery instead? gain something, although such home batteries come at a risk...

not only it it wasting power just by being plugged in but itd have to be installed at the main to do anything anyway because it would only be able to effect things downstream of itself.

OP, are you seriously asking, or just bringing this here for all our entertainment? This is like the magnets on the fuel line to give you 100 mpg.

Think about it: a coal power plant and electric distribution may get you electricity to your home at 30% overall efficiency. Now you get 10 times the use our of it (90% electricity use reduction for your same lighting, motors, heating etc.). That would give you an overall efficiency of 300%. Or you could then use that electricity (with that device) and use a 90% efficient motor to run a 90% efficient generator (skip that whole coal and turbine thing at the plant) and you get 800% of the electricity of what you put in. So basically a perpetuum mobile. Fake media will say a perpetuum mobile is not possible. BS, I say to that! You just buy that device, and built what I told you and then you show them!

That thing also is supposed to work on DC. Can you believe those stupid Teslas schlepp those heavy and expensive batteries. All they need is this device and get by with 10% of the battery size.

actually there's a way to pay less

play with the energy counter (I have no idea of what's called in english)

or do like gypsies, exploit infrastructure

by stealing from power lines

although you might end up in jail or pay a fine

Also add to the course analogue electronics to curb out the snake oil audiophile products.

The human brain is our weakest link, we are easily scared, gullible and we can fool ourselves because we will actually hear and see what we expect to see rather than what is actually there (this is why audio snake oil will always be a thing).

This shit is no different, it preys on your fear of high power bills, gives you the illusion of control and doesn't require any effort.  For a lot of users it would take many years of comparing before and after bills to actually realize it made no difference.

PFC Power Factor Correctors are real pieces of equipment, but you dont yeet them in a random spot, you place them in series with the load, and they need to store enough energy to correct the phase. And they are built in in any power supply that passes certification. Below an image for a PFC that serves an industrial system.
