My poor CPU is hitting 190F/87C on my gaming laptop. I have the laptop elevated for more air flow, and a sperate fan that blows air under it. This helps get the temps down to 180F/81C on my CPU. My GPU is at about 160F/72C so I don't worry about that much. Anyone have better solutions.

P.S. Just hit 200 F!! on CPU While on medium, had to pause I guess I will stick to light mode from now on, until I get a better solution.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 mobile/Laptop GPU

Light mode folding will disable the GPU. My advice would be to go to the advanced control panel and disable CPU folding and run the GPU only. This is because it is common for both the CPU and GPU to share a cooling assembly, meaning you are saturating it by hitting both with high loads at the same time

@GorgonI'm expecting with it being a Quadro the efficiency will be decent, I think it's around 90-100w and 900k or so on average

I will take that for sure! at 125 it's a steal, I bid up to 170 for it but no one else seemed to bid. Luckily for me

You're going to make me get a 4090 to compete aren't you!

Its a shame the event is November rather than December, when we will hopefully have some comparisons between 4080 and 4090 folding.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)

I just remembered I have a rx480 ive been planning to sell, im wondering if i should wait until december to do it.
A 480 isnt much, but throwing it on my computer with a 4130 in it, thats gotta be a million more points over the month

ghetto cooling for a blower card anyone?

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I'm just curious if having more CUDA cores but a 4080 power limit would be better or worse than a 4080.

I'd love to see a bunch of cards compared all capped to the same wattage and see what happens.  There seems to be a lot of talk of the physical size and maximum power of 40x0 series, less so that they are way more efficient at lower wattages and where that sweet spot for performance per watt is.  But I guess that will come after the embargo is lifted.

a 480 will be substantially more than a million points over a month.

Even so... with a passkey you should be getting like 250-300k PPD on a bad 480

Indeed, I mean the 4090 doesn't seem worth it for primarily gaming over the 4080, but for folding it could be very different.

Also on the 3080 I've been able to run The Crew 2 and Pinball FX without even turning off folding, although the latter tanks PPD.

Exactly, The folding database by Lar is great, but you have no idea on the wattages, settings, ect used

That doesn't sound normal at all, even for a crappy card. My low end 4GB RX 570 easily gets 500K points per day. A 480 should be around there or a bit higher. Do you have a passkey configured?

my 480 is pulling in between 400-650K PPD. Mind you, apparently I have a really good 480 and didn't even know. Have yet to not get a "unicorn" point reward based on @LAR_Systems plug-in for F@H.  It's pulling 115W and staying in max boost bin, at 1325-1340mhz core, with a chilly 71C average on its blower cooler.

my 480 is pulling in between 400-650K PPD. Mind you, apparently I have a really good 480 and didn't even know. Have yet to not get a "unicorn" point reward based on @LAR_Systems plug-in for F@H.  It's pulling 115W and staying in max boost bin, at 1325-1340mhz core, with a chilly 71C average on its blower cooler.

so remember that to folding at home the 470/480/570/580/590 is the same, so they are all averaged, so depending on the exact spread of those GPUs using the extension it may or may not actually be good.

With that said, around half a mil seems about right all things considered

the other thing to consider is that the 480 is essentially a binned 470, and then the 570/580 are binned refreshes, and the 590 is a perfect bin 580. this card it seems is spectacular at influenza research folding, and above average at cancer folding.

the guy I got it from was a "gotta have the top of the product stack" guy and so he was selling this one for like a 20% discount at the time because it wasn't the top of the product stack anymore. today's estimated PPD is 558k

I was under the impression that the x70 was a cut down die to some small degree
