In current times, doesn't this cause more problems then it is worth?

I could have sworn it was the intention to make DST permanent, with no adjustment back to standard time starting next year.

Regardless I hate DST. I wish it was abolished altogether.

It is. I would prefer permanent winter time though, as DST will make it quite dark during winter times.

It'll take some coordination, but it's only difference would really be that you'll have one final switch. Then people will need to adapt to the new time zones a bit perhaps and probably after a year or so everything will be smooth sailing again I'd guess.

This is one of those I'll see it when they do it things. The EU was planning to stop it last October, but apparently Brexit and pandemic and stuff threw a wrench in it and now it's still on the 'to be approved' list.

Sure, but I would prefer sunrise a little earlier than 8-9 AM during winter. The Netherlands would choose to stick to winter time, so I would be good anyway.

Wouldn't change much for me. Want sunrise at 1058 or 1158?

Same goes for summer whether we're on "winter" time or not. Sunrise at 3am and set the next day at 1am. Or 2 am to midnight.

Saw some of the Standard vs Daylight times arguments in this article and thought they were interesting https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/sarahmimms/daylight-saving-time-permanent-congress

Summary: Daylight time is purportedly better for "Safety" and "Economy" over Standard time.

Apparently, people don’t know you can simply get up an hour earlier, or god forbid, have work start an hour early, without the clock changing shenanigans.

Whoever thought changing the clocks twice a year was a fine idea, I certainly hope that person is enjoying hell right now.

I hate this but hate it less than the status quo

I live in Oregon (so moderately north of the equator)

Permanent summer time would mean getting to school 1-2 hours before sunrise in the winter (I would just...get up later, but I don't have control over school scheduling shenanigans - I'm not going to get started over how the start time is stupid regardless)

only a government official could think cutting a section off the top of a rug and sewing it to the bottom of the same rug will make a longer rug.

Its about time and i hope it passes, DST is a useless thing that is not necessary in a modern society of today. And the accidents and heart attacks that happen every year on the change day are a stupid problem to have.

And in case anybody is wondering if why we are trying to keep it on DST forever instead of off forever its because if you look at the chart of sunlight to hours of the day, having DST on forever is a better utilization of daylight overall.

Not a longer rug, but positioning the rug we have so it covers the part of the floor most people actually use.

Going to work in the dark, then leaving work in the dark, is tiresome and depressing. (I always go to work in the dark because I work third-and-a-half shift, but I already have light-blocking curtains to make the bedroom dark in the summer. The needs of the many, etc etc.)

Also...

I'm a cook so i have a lot of the year where its dark to and from work. But as i said having DST on for 365 is the most efficient use of the sunlight. Yes in the winter its a little dark but when averaged out for the whole year its better.
