  1. I hope Subaru is forced to do an emergency first year refresh on the WRX like they did with the 3rd gen. (Or like Honda did with the 9th gen Civic.)

I could kind of see it, but on the other hand the WRX isn't their moneymaker.

Funny you mention Civic because 10th gen Civic was my first thought when I saw the rear of the new WRX.

  2. Hope everyone had a good 9+10=22 day.

Also new WRX came out! Gonna look at that later.

  3. I prefer to think that a bunch of random crypto miners are firing up old nuclear power plants

  4. The X230 is pretty solid, but the display is really bad, even if it's above the OP's 720p requirement. It also doesn't provide much real-estate for multitasking. Instead I would recommend something like a T530 with the 1600*900 or 1080p display. I would also recommend a FHD Latitude E6540. I think it still has a TN panel, but as with the T530, it still has good viewing angles and looks pretty good. As for the rest of the laptop, it has a nice keyboard and solid construction. If you use the trackpoint, you may have an issue with the stupid button design, however. These Latitudes also had proble
  5. Update: Apparently I don't actually have an English teacher lined up, the school staff spammed all of the summer work.

Every day I grow closer to leaving and going to another (still public ofc) school...

  6. My English teacher gave more than enough summer work for every class... 😞

  7. I used to have Cricket, but about a year ago my family switched to AT&T. It's a lot better as you get priority, while Cricket heavily throttles even their "high speed" data. We initially switched to MetroPCS due to their Prime+Google One deal, similar pricing to Cricket, and better priority policy. However, they destroyed my father's phone and did nothing about it, so we left them for AT&T.
  8. Holy crap I think my fridge/freezer just broke. Something fell when I went to get some ice and the motor or whatever stopped running. They both seem to be running a bit warm now as well.

    Great.

That can happen. The most common things to break are the thermostat (which it sounds like in this case (Good news, they’re often cheap) or the integrity of the piping (which requires soldering/brazing and repressurizing and is not infrequently so expensive a new device is cheaper) the motor or belt (if there even is one) could also have gone out but it’s less common.

I have some good news: it was just all a horrible coincidence that I overreacted to. The thermostat decided that the fridge/freezer had cooled down enough to shut off the motor right as the food had landed on the bottom of the freezer. I've caught the motor running again since the status update.

Over 20 years and it's still running strong (with a broken icemaker, that is).

Thermostat is likely fine then. The piping is generally underneath and behind the machine but not normally in the food compartment except in really cheap or old freezers. If something fell inside the food compartment it shouldn’t affect that. Refrigerators generally start running when you open the door and continue after you close it until equilibrium is established again, so the timing is off.  I’d probably want to make sure the thing is still working right in the morning.

Fridge is still running and is still cold, I think the one we have just decides to stop running even if the door is open. (Or maybe it was a temporary issue...) Thanks for the help!

  9. Warning: long status update ahead. I can get kind of long-winded when it comes to talking about cars...

As someone who enjoys a nice drive, my original* plan was to buy something like an E46 coupe/E92/E82 BMW, a Mustang GT, a 6th/8th gen Civic Si Coupe, an Accord 6-6, a Miata, or if I could somehow afford one, an early FR-S... in retrospect insurance costs would have probably crossed most of these cars off my list anyways, but I digress...

    Spoiler

*My original plan was to save up money for a Camry/Avalon Hybrid, and later a 6th generation Subaru Legacy 3.6R Limited, however these choices were extremely stupid.

Anyways, my plans changed after driving around with close friends (one old enough to drive) in a roomy full-size sedan (the 8th gen Accord was barely a full-size depending on configuration, and it feels like it...) It was extremely fun to just go around town with them.

You can probably see where this is headed... all of the cars I wanted were small and not ideal for bringing any more than one passenger with me.

At this point, I have pretty much set my sights on a couple of bigger but still fun to drive cars. Those being the E39 5 series sedan (I love the looks, and my grandfather has one that is a pleasure to drive and be a passenger in) or Legacy GT/(lowered) Outback XT. None of these options are extremely spacious, but I'd rather sit in the back of my grandfather's fivver than in the back of an FR-S lmao. I think my choice will ultimately be an E39 without shit like the Xenon headlights (to keep parts costs low) and a good previous owner. I find the E39 to be a truly great car, and while it's not quite as nimble as an E46, it's more comfortable and honestly is a lot classier. Hopefully the semiconductor shortage ends soon as non-M5 E39s were pretty cheap pre-pandemic. (TBH, the prices aren't too bad even at the moment, IIRC.)

I've also been looking into a EZ36D and STi 6MT swap on a 3rd generation Subaru Legacy. That will probably wait until I have a good daily and room for 2 cars (AKA after I move out and shit).

I've missed the forum as well! Glad to be back.

  11. Look at that beautiful E65 in the background! Such a great car, glad that the E38 died for it.

    https://i.redd.it/r7g06px84td71.jpg

    Spoiler

In all seriousness, I hate the E65, and I hate how they lure people in with the badge and price ("wow, look! A cheap and modern looking 7 series!) and then demolish them with maintenance costs.

If you ignore the memes, the E38 (especially with an inline 6) isn't too bad to own... and they're a hell of a lot better to look at than the Eshitty5s.

Also not a fan of the E60s, though some people are starting to warm up to it... IMO the E9x  3s and E8x 1s were the only good "mainline" BMWs of the time, and I've considered them as a first car (if prices ever go back to pre-COVID levels)...

  12. I got some sketchers recently, comfy as hell coming from my usual Nike made shoes. Would recommend them from that aspect alone. They seem to generally pretty conservatively styled, a plus for me. Can't really vouch either way in terms of durability at this point, but my old kid's sketchers from elementary school didn't seem to be any worse than my other shoes.
  13. BNA is a mess. They need to get more air throughput in and out of Nashville.

Even DCA's Terminal A is better and that's already pretty bad.

  14. Attempt 2 at fixing my cousin's 3DS XL. We'll see if it goes better this time.

      Thanks!

It was a dead charging port, but now it has to do with ribbon cables. If I had just soldered a new charge port to the original board I would have avoided this whole mess.
