  1. Just did a speedrun on a benchmark test...

    Probably shouldn't have done that

  2. Apparently the Metro is using automatic door opening on the Red Line again. May go and see for myself.

Automatic train operation is apparently not coming back for at least a few years, and it may be replaced with a new system entirely (which, IMO, is bullshit, since they're still using ATO technology even in manual mode. Why spend all the money to replace it???).

Metro's all about form over function... even back in the early days, to an extent. But at least they actually did the "form" thing right lol.

I visited DC for the 2016 Easter Egg Roll. We only rode on the Silver line, but I do remember stopping at the megahub station with 2 layers of tracks. That was a cool sight to see.

CTA trains (Chicago equivalent) have used automatic doors for as long as I can remember, but they've only recently started switching to digital station start/end signs, and they've only done the Red and Green lines. Brown, Blue, Purple, Yellow, etc. are still manual where you have to switch out pieces of paper.

There are a few "hub" stations on the Metro, I agree that the architecture is pretty cool. Sadly they've been actively getting rid of their identity with the new railcar and station designs.

The oldest Metro cars had rollsigns, but once they refurbished them, they got displays... that were so dim that they used paper signs anyways LOL. Their 2/3/4000 series cars were like that until the 2/3Ks were refurbished and got displays that were actually functional. The 4000s never got refurbished and were relics. Wish I actually rode on one more than once.

I'd love to see the El if I ever go to Chicago. Seems more functional than our system.

It's really well put together if everything's functioning, though I think they're doing construction right now on the Red Line. I haven't kept up with what they're doing.

They're doing some construction over here as well. No Blue line and the northern end of the Green Line has been off and on for a few weeks. It's gonna be fully shut down for a few months as well. Wish they had done the latter work back in 2020 like they originally planned to...

I think Scotty's reached his redline lol

  4. The crazy in me likes the idea of working for a 1st gen Boxter (can be found for about 10 grand).

Aside from maintenance, the optics of having a Porsche as a first car aren't great... even though a lot of my friends are looking to drop similar money on things like Civics, Maximas, Chargers, etc...

  5. Was talking about mine, but yeah yours is pricey, too. Don't see the point of having a BOF SUV and a heavy duty pickup. Swapped the RAM on my list for a Suburban or Excursion for the 3rd row.
  6. 1. Some turbo Subaru 2. Any 911 or the Cayman 4.0 3. Ram 1500 Larime (2500 if they refresh it and make it as nice as the 1500). HEMI is a requirement. Maybe a Suburban or Excursion instead. 4. Some EV, or in a perfect world some M3/M5. 5. BRZ/Miata/SVX I think this is pretty well rounded. And expensive.
  7. Nobody will hire me until I'm 16, which admittedly is not that far off. Trying to start my own business ATM.

If you're setting up your own business have you also factored in taxes?

Also, if no one will hire you, what do you think will happen when you show up to fix peoples computers?

There's a lot to think through before you actually start something as a business.

Gotta pay taxes if I get a job anyways.

Luckily I look a bit older than I actually am. I've thought about this off and on for a while, not gonna invest too much in case this flops.

It's not quite the same. Depending on your state, you also have to charge tax. You need to know the rate, as it can differ based on service applications. The way you pay tax is also drastically different.

I'll look into that. I know the sales tax rate here is 6% because it's screwed me on multiple occasions.

  8. Impreza 22B STi Except that I would feel guilty driving one, I'd rather just mod a shitbox Impreza. End goal is to get a Porsche 911 someday... we'll see if that happens. As for the current day, I want to find a beat to shit MT 6th gen Civic for under a grand. Would be fun to have a shitbox I can beat on. Also looking for cheap E46 coupes.
  9. I also started the WRX article, but since I couldn't get that specific name, I added the chassis code to the title and narrowed the scope. So as of now, the old WRX info is stuck on the Impreza pages and the VA chassis (and it's successor) have their own page. Maybe it's for the best???

  10. Can't take credit for the article in it's current state, but considering how much I shit on the XV Crosstrek (it's engine specifically), I cared enough about it to start the wiki on it (it used to just have a footnote in the Impreza article).

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Crosstrek

Wrote the original version at school instead of doing work. You can see it if you look through the edit history, some parts of the current article still have my work (mostly shit pertaining to American models).

Didn't know how to navigate the Wikipedia copyright rules so I used pics of my dad's 2015 and a loner 2019 we had. My interior pic of the 2019 remains, but that's it lol.

  11. My dad's XV Crosstrek has CVT paddle shifters. I'm actually quite a fan of them. Helps me squeeze out that immense 148 horsepower.

  12. really want to build a 6 stroke engine.

It seems interesting, and may help the ICE live another day due to efficiency gains.

  13. Was a close call at the DMV, their website is not that great of a reference in terms of what forms to bring. Luckily we got them to accept said forms (proof of address, etc) and I passed the skills test with no wrong answers.

Got a temp permit until I get the real one mailed.

  14. So there's a cool bugeye WRX wagon near my friends house and it looks like it's not being driven.

It has WR Blue paint, though it has issues with the exterior.

I'm wondering if I should go and ask the owner if it's for sale next time I go over there.
