I run chrome and it uses 100mbs at most. Try closing some tabs.

Yes. I should drastically change my workflow because Chrome is programmed by monkeys who don't know how to make their code efficient.

Safari will destroy your memory. And I mean DESTROY. I can very easily eat up 4-6gb while running nothing else.

Yeah, I have to agree with you there. I have used it on rare occasions. I found out interestingly enough that a good amount of the add-ons I have in Chrome are actually available for Opera.

Of course it's Chrome. I've never gotten above 512 MB of RAM usage while using it. Then again, I only have 5 tabs or less open all the time as opposed to 6.5 million

That's the amount of tabs that I have open on LinusTechTips/gmail.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

A friend of mine had an issue with chrome and still uses it to this day. He had chrome open with 1 tab and it would use 98 percent of his CPU and 7.45 of his 8GB of ram on his laptop. It still does it every now and then with nothing else running and no activity on the tab.

Something, something, something, famous quote, computer specs, and stuff...

Just to point out why chrome uses "so much" RAM.

Each tab is ran as a separate process to protect your other tabs, so if one crashes or something goes wrong, only that tab will crash, the rest is protect.

Personally, I'd take the extra RAM usage over losing all my stuff if a tab crashes (*cough* IE *cough*)

Chrome is dog poo I have 4 tabs open right now:

Facebook, Twitter, Youtube (With 20 min video loaded), Linus Tech Forum

Chrome is using 965,620 KB ffs, WITH ONLY 4 TABS.

If I close the video, the total goes to 742,352 KB which is PATHETIC

I do have a fairly powerful rig with 8GB RAM but with 1/8th being used on a f**king web browser and 32% including windows total it's stupid.

 

On my Mac it's MUCH MUCH worse. Something like 1.5 GB with ONE new tab window (same extensions)!

Chrome uses a lot of RAM yes, But in its defence it sandboxes every tab you have open to stop anything from accessing anything but low-integrity disk locations. So yes it uses lots of RAM but I would prefer it does this to keep me safe than not do it at all. (you can turn it off and reap the RAM savings btw)
