Anime Club - Heaven Society

JLCitadel

TBH, the sales are kinda meaningless to the argument. I mean, Overlord sold a lot more copies than some of the stuff airing this past season, but it still wasn't enough despite it visually being pretty average.

I honestly just hope anime studios start making better anime even if it means slightly lesser visuals. We can take it. What's merely kinda decent these days is often better than what we got 15 or 20 years ago on the top end, so it's time to start improving what really matters. Same thing as video games - the virtual guns look and sound real enough already, it's time to give us a reason to want to shoot them.

I mean i don't think money is needed to come up with a great story, studios just need to take their heads out of their ass and start thinking about good stuff, and not making the same stuff everyone is doing/has done on recent past seasons.

On the other hand, they will keep making whatever makes money, if that's bad harems and generic shounens, that's what we're going to get.

The way things seem to be trending, it's more likely they'll just keep making crap that sells, but on ever-tighter budgets. Everyone loses. You have your choice of samey well-animated forgettable crap that only differs in name, like Asterisk and Chivalry. That's why I want to be kind to the stuff like Noragami and Utawarerumono, even if it's also desperately trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator, because at least it has a pulse.

What is this I hear about the comedy of airing the same anime scheduled twice on the same day hours apart?

Apparently it's an innovative new way to try to get twice the audience, by spending twice as much making the same episode :)

And gangsta, thats an anime that yells tight budget. But at least tried to not do the same stuff everyone is doing, and how did it end? Bankrupt. Sooo i wouldn't expect anything crazy on the upcoming season.

I thought they only relied on physical copies being bought?

Also, i had a question about that, maybe you know, or someone. Uhm when they talk about copies they mean the amount of episodes they sold, or the amount of 12episodes they sold? Idk how it works.

You see this bullshit right here? This is why even Americans prefer metric over imperial.

lb*f vs lb*m but designated the same. Engineering; imperial is 80% of the times a trick question because why else would anyone bother forcing you to use it.

@Charger we've hit that point where anime are so bland and generic that two different ones under different names and different studios airing in parallel have met singularity. As of yet, I hear that it's making some people do sanity checks.

In Japan they tend to sell anime on DVDs/BluRays with 1 or 2 episodes on them, so you kind of collect the series as it airs (it ranges from pretty expensive to ridiculously expensive, which is part of the problem). I think they only count those BD/DVD sales on the charts, not the additional stuff like OSTs or sales bumps that the original light novel/manga might see as well.

We're being tongue-in-cheek of course, but the numerous similarities are pretty amusing in hindsight.

the little laptop is a beast, it has 4GB of ram, 2 of which are used even at idle(probably due to the igpu not sure though) and i have 20 tabs open in chrome and it still has about 1GB of ram left to use, either chrome uses a lot less ram now or theres some magic happening right now

ya imperial is shit but long live imperial measurements. I tend to do two different degrees of work that uses imperial measurements and in a completely different way. The first being fractional work were its to a fraction and the other is to the thousandths of an inch. All other forms are trash, and imperial should not be used for anything related to science or engineering lol

ya I understand what you guys are saying which is why it seems interesting lol

But what happens to the normal version of the anime? People really watch the anime and then spend a lot of money on a kinda better version of the anime they already saw? I mean i understand when it's a super ecchi anime and the pervs want to see the anime w/o the light beams and bath steam, but appart from that it really makes no sense.

They need to change that system.

meanwhile dadelion with 100k+ views and a flood of videos

It's interesting to me how long vs short videos on Youtube are treated.

I know of an ASMR artist who has 270,000 subscribers, and most of his 10-20 minute videos got him 100,000-500,000 views. Then he released a 10 hour video (of non-repeated content, all unique), and it now has 1.76M views. So apparently a lot of people like the longer stuff.

I mean, I'd really like a proper Halo movie as well.

Halo Legends was magnificent. A Halo movie would be wonderful. I love movies that do the episodic thing with multiple different art styles (though the Batman one had some cringy stuff).

I honestly want that movie. I just don't want it to suck like it's predecessor. I know it's very likely it will, but still. I can hope.

-getout-

kek

I'd like a Korra movie, so long as Shyamalan didn't direct it. Or at least stuck completely to source material.

I can't tell you how excited I was when I saw the trailer for the original Avatar: The Last Airbender movie. Then I heard it was shit. It was so disappointing.

the first one sucked so i have no hope that a second one will be good. I would rather watch another avatar cartoon which could probably be made with the budget from the movie.

agreed I always find it a bit nostalgic watching older anime in 4:3 ratio. Kids these days just don't know the quality of crap we watched when we were younger lol.

240p master race lol

Same. But unfortunately, the creators of Avatar are moving past it. :( They have no desire to make more at the moment (though they did say they weren't saying there would never be more Avatar, just there wouldn't be more any time soon).

Unfortunately yes.

:(

Regarding the "old anime" discussion, I'm liking VoE. Even if I see a ton of tropes & similarities between it and other games/shows with similar qualities.

I like the way they've handled transformation sequences tho. Show it off once when it first happens in the show, again when the MC gets an upgrade or his powers back, and they'll probably show it one last time to make the final battle climactic.

I think that's the way to handle it. Unlike Sailor Moon where every episode had them transforming. Though, in that, I get it. Girls being basically nude. Still, got annoying as shit (Yes, I watched a lot of Sailor Moon as a kid).

I thought they had awful feedback, i can't believe they are making another one. I read a long time ago that another season/book of avatar (the cartoon, with aang) was happening, but i haven't heard anything more of it.

O, that.

TL;DR: There are comics for what happens after the end of the Cartoon series when Aang and the gang are like 1-2 years older or something. That's being made into a series or movie, I forget which.

There's also a comic (or it may have been one within the above mentioned series) that tells the story of Zuko's mom and what happened to her.

They need to change that system.

Well, the broadcast version of the anime is there to draw in fans so they buy it. How else are they to recoup their costs, really? They probably just got used to this system instead of selling full seasons at the end of the season, but it's not too different from what we have with our TV shows (as far as I know).

There are quite a few shows that have major production issues due to being rushed for broadcast... especially Shaft's anime tend to have that problem. The final BD release will fix these issues of QUALITY, and add in special effects that might have been toned down, for instance.

I think the major problem with this system is that it asks too much of the consumer, so as the quality of the shows dips there's no real reason to rush out and buy a BluRay for something that sucks. It's not like you can't find cheap porn/hentai online, so these studios will pretty much always lose in the long run unless they make a break-out hit that actually sells. Nice fight animation isn't exactly something people can afford to waste their time and money on in a recession, but when times are tough we do want something that will take our minds off of it for more than just a few minutes while we're watching it.

They are actually very good! As long as the original creators are back at the helm, I have high hopes for what imo is quality source material.

Comet Lucifer's first episode was great, even with it being my most anticipated of the season, it didn't disappoint.

The small amount of CGI in it was probably the best CGI I've ever seen in TV anime action scenes.

Studio 8bit has come a long way. Good news for the Rewrite adaptation.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

No kidding. I found the TV series a bit lacking, but it was for a younger audience. It would be great to see it turned into a nice self-contained story with all the wrinkles smoothed out. Of course there's absolutely no way the fandom would accept that, so it'll probably never happen (especially after Shyamalan showed them how bad it could be).

Comet Lucifer's first episode was great.

How so? Because the CGI looked nice?

The thing about the cartoon is it always made me smile...and still does to this day. I want a movie that makes me smile for the same reasons. Shyamalan achieved the absolute opposite. It has to be said however, that I don't need a movie. The ending was really solid and I'm happy for it to stay that way. Improving or adding anything would be really hard (though the comics give it a pretty good go).
