Well, guess I might as well feed my ego and summarize my thoughts on the Fall 2015 anime season. And whooo boy, if you focus on the big names of the season, it sure seemed dire. I count myself lucky that I managed to avoid Charlotte and Rokka, but I'm not much happier with my "bad anime of the season", Overlord (Madhouse should be ashamed of that one). Even Durarara has lost its charm. Thankfully the light comedies of the season kept it from being a complete write-off, and there were a few other anime that were marginally good enough to tide us over until One Punch Man "saves anime". Ore Monogatari was mine; others really liked School-Live, or even managed to find some marginal enjoyment in Classroom Crisis. But the only anime I might go back and watch soonish would be Baby Steps, since I hear it's a consistently good series. As for the stuff I did watch...

Yeah, it happens. I'm still hoping that a few more decent shows will come out, but if not then that just means more of a chance to catch up on my backlog. I was hoping for more from Shirayuki, and I found the Gate much easier to appreciate compared to the anime (a weird one-off case probably).

wish i had a backlog . Ive pretty much seen most of everything rated above 4 stars on anime-planet (the site i used for tracking my anime) I'm pretty picky when it comes to shows i like

Moonbeam City episode 3: It was the inverse of the first two. Boring in the beginning, picks up in humor, right up until the end begins and it gets boring/dumb again. 

Worth it tho.

Vision of Escaflowne, I've realized, has a fairly similar yet not similar story to Legend of Dragoon. I found this humorous. Also, typical JRPG "Mystical land in the North" stuff. Not sure if that's somehow tied to Japan's mythology, but lots of JRPGs do this. 

The music is enjoyable as well. I'm on episode 18 now.

Overlord left me absolutely astonished. Color me impressed.
I'm going to have to do a bit of backtracking here. It's rare that I'd 180 this hard but holy hell. I defended this a bit due to earlier episodes which still holds, but only in regards to each specifically, not holistically.
 
Episode 10 was where I left off last time. From what I've seen up until episode 10, I'd say the anime was -alright-
Yeah, it dropped the ball in the earlier episodes but it made the best of it and started playing soccer (or football for you commies and socialists), generally it trended as acceptable, up until the end of episode 10. Vampire loli gets hit with mind control and then rebels against the crew because... well nobody knows why, we never find out or make anything of it.
 
We're bringing some sort of plot into this now. Let's summarize what I remember so far. We introduced skeletor and OP dragon babe that wants to smash that pelvis because MC somehow thought that it was humorous to add that into her character, dicked around for a bit, spent time introducing characters, then spontaneously decided to go conquer the game world, went and dunked some fools for +rep, go adventuring as a "noob" with Narbe-- end up acquiring a hamster who is ultimately used twice for a 10 second gag and then a one liner joke. Following that vampire girl gets her mind hijacked then repo'd.
 

Last 3 episodes had me watching like

everything was "K" up to that last point. Completely threw out what made it (to some people) entertaining and what gave it some value to me. A minor character gets basically 4 episodes as a tangent to EVERYTHING else in the anime, to top that off at the end the entire thing has basically gone full circle.
 
And that's ok. It's ok for something to go full circle, so long as there is some value in it.
 
Going to have to break out the @Vitalius lists

• last few episode of Overlord are some of the worst anime has offered that I've personally seen.
• One minute long of arbitrarily nonsensical spell buff chanting. Why? Why did anyone even bother to translate it? It's basically meaningless.
• Spent one episode talking about old bros and their old gear which he essentially uses to melee vampire to death at the end. 5 minutes of meaningful content done in 22 minutes. Splendid.
• Albedo shows emotion over Skeletor-sama going in to battle. This character has done absolutely NOTHING. WHY is she here?
• Few people gather around the "television" to commentate on Skeletor-sama's battle strats and odds of victory.. which don't matter because the audience knows literally nothing because nothing was given.
• blah blah "u think u winnin but u rong" ALL ACCORDING TO PLANS etc etc kill you to death
• cash shop item my way to victory, kek lol MLG augmented 420MAGEitFGT

I'm trying my best to TL;DR but these last episodes were absolutely atrocious. I might as well have cracked open some random book and started reading the ending because EVERYTHING was irrelevant down to the last closing fight of casting generic spells that do generic things with absolutely zero context. I haven't seen many battle scenes that are this anemic. Completely lacks content. 22 full suffering minutes of watching nothing except some words, some colors, and hand flailing.
 
Final episode wasn't worth translating either. I don't speak japanese beyond baka and praise for senpai, but I could have watched that episode raw untranslated and it would have not mattered.
This is a complete and utter failure of an anime. It's abundantly clear this was to sell source material, again, this is OK, but this makes me not want to so much as bother to steal it.
 
Complex episode rating:
1-(3~4): ~7.5 (this is considered decently good)
4-10.5: 6.0
10.5-13: 0.5/10. The fuck is this

 

It gets the 0.5 from the scene posted below, which is the only thing worth seeing from this chain of episodes, otherwise it's anime for Hellen Keller.
Definitely getting purged from Plex.

Overlord (mediocre).
Overlord is just junk - the Chaika of this season. It's a show that obviously puts in the least effort possible on every level. It sets up a reasonably fun premise of a guy suddenly having to play an evil overlord, and after a few episodes it flushes it all down the toilet by turning into a generic adventure romp that isn't even much of a romp. It's painfully clear how little thought was put into this by how brainless and artless it is. It's just about a badass who's only a badass because the plot contrives it. What few interesting ideas it has are barely paid lip-service, and then they dredge them back up in the finale in a cheap attempt to make it feel like they were actually important plot elements. The animation is bare-bones, the characters paper-thin, the comedy barely existent, and there wasn't even any noteworthy fanservice. It's just the bare minimum necessary to entertain someone who's still willing to lower their standards and put more effort into watching it than its creators did coming up with it.

I thought Chaika was "K" too. Forgettable but not unwatchable.
After watching the last block of this I think that the comparison is somewhat unwarranted and that mediocre is slightly too generous.

Danmaku is known as a bullet curtain, basically a destructive projectile that is ridiculously hard to dodge due to the sheer number of them.

 

I will quote from the wiki "It should be noted that danmaku fights aren't for the sake of killing each other – it is a girls' play-fight. The beautiful danmaku with plenty of useless bullets is verification of the fact that opponents don't really want to kill the player, and in the archives, ZUN has said that if they truly wanted to kill, a ratio of 10:1 bullets wouldn't be necessary."

Kratos is fucked, there are undodgable danmaku. Since he can't phase outta existence like a certain Miko can, he will inevitably get hit. Oh and danmaku will probably be the least of his worries once he meets the residents of Gensokyo....

Oh and the number 9 is a running gag/inside joke for the character Cirno in Touhou. 

"Cirno is a childish, confident fairy who appears to have a superiority complex in regards to others. She proclaims herself to be "the strongest" on three separate occasions in Phantasmagoria of Flower View. In the game's manual, she is labeled as "9. baka" (⑨. バカ, lit. "9. Idiot") in an explanation of the game screen's layout. She was again labeled as such in the manual for Touhou Hisoutensoku. This implies that Cirno may be some kind of idiot. An example of Cirno's stupidity would be the spell card Ice Sign "Icicle Fall", which has a very obvious safespot to easily dodge the danmaku on Easy Difficulty.^"
