This is one of those things that I found really underwhelming and made it erase itself from my head. A lot of times I see some of the supporting characters and never recognize them. End up curious for who that is and what it's from only to realize "oh it's from that one anime that I keep forgetting I saw"

 

It was an alright ride to the end. Typical tsun activities. At the minimum, I don't remember anything in it making me mad.

Yeah, the ending was expected (at least they had the courtesy to end it) but it kinda went out with a fizzle, like everyone realized the day was over and unenthusiastically performed the closing ceremonies that are more or less only ritual;

 

"hey congtats u win the tigerbowl, get your shit and get the fuck out, we're closing"

"ok cool, ty for the really nice ribbon"

 

and then everyone quietly shuffles their way home.

Hah haa! Meanwhile I am sitting here with glorious 1280 x 1024 resolution... with a 550 Ti... (that's drivers at least work... )

 

Better get used to 4:3 resolution or just watch everything in windowed, like I do: I dislike full screen videos and games on 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratio, so I want it windowed (1280 x 720) or if that's not an option for some reason, letter boxed 1280 x 720. Widescreen is just used everywhere which makes 4:3 and 5:4 awkward to use, and while some of the screen estate might seem like is going to waste, I do use the remaining 304 pixels somehow.

 

Heck, even if I were to actually bother to turn my 1080p TV that has been gathering dust for 2 years into a second monitor (or replace this current 1280 x 1024 one due to it's high-pitched sound it emits when it's turned OFF at night), I'd probably stick to 1280 x 720 in windowed most of the time, and use the rest of the screen estate for something else.

Vision of Escaflowne Episode 1:

I like it so far (I could just stop there).

Obviously religious imagery is evident in this series. I like this because I recognize a lot of it.

The Tower tarot card is specifically the Tower of Babel from the Bible, I imagine, because if you know that story it makes perfect sense in why it represents separation. 

Medieval Dragons and mecha? Yes. Just yes.

And this show seems imaginative with how they do action sequences: i.e. the dragon running atop the red path marker things to a Japanese Shinto shrine. 10/10 on that one. Plus the dragon (at least this one) looks like a chicken as it walks. Again, me gusta.

@CatCloud, you weren't kidding. Like Ski Slopes. Their noses would be just as effective weapons against a dragon's scale-y hide, I imagine.

YEP! Cant unsee it either...or forget. Its still fresh in my mind, every time they zoom in on a characters face.. it was impossible not to notice.

Also on the subject of Toradora, I just realize something! Every anime by that Studio is like a play trough of Skyrim.

No matter what character you pick youll go trough the same but slightly different shit.

No matter how you Save Whiterun you'll end up with Lydia.

Finished Working!! season 3

 

The comedy was not as good as the other 2 seasons, the romantic part was alright for a SoL, but i insist sometimes they have serious moments regarding romantic relationships, and they don't progress anymore, or progress slow as fuck. Ofcourse i'm talking about MC-Inami, there is progress, but very little.

The 1 hour special to give closure to the series looks like a fantasy anime, wth was that?

 

It gets the same 5/10(Average) score as the other 2 seasons, if the comedy was on par with the other 2, it would have been better.

 

 

 

Now idk if i'm going to watch Jitsu wa Watashi wa or Gangsta.

Finished Episode 2 of Vision of Escaflowne.

Was enjoyable. Fighting was a little weird, but eh (bad placement of combat lead to people "teleporting" to places they wouldn't actually have been for dramatic effect. Was distracting). 

Lots of usual anime stereotypes, but mostly ones I don't mind or I do like.

@CatCloud The more I look at the noses, the more I feel like they are good examples of what actual noses on anime characters would. Only 2 things: Excessively curved, and they need more variety (for example, I have a rounded nose, but everyone in this anime has a pointy one). 

But ofc anime always exaggerates features.

There is just something especially magnificent about that video.

Jitsu wa watashi wa looks cool. Watched only 2 episodes so far, but i think i'll like it, though i'm not sure. Seems like it's going to be entertaining, but i'm not laughing my ass of just yet. And ofcourse there's some romance involved (that wont go anywere)for some reason.

The disjointed way they wrapped up individual subplots was a bit jarring too. But at least they finally did it. (Minus Inami x Takanashi, which will be in the 1-hour special episode)

haha looks like im not the only one. Well ive told the forum a few times about my crazy lucid dream abilities which i have (lucid dreams very day, each lasts for an extremely long time). 

in my dreams i have grey hair but im more or less the same, but i have a sister in my dreams for some reason. Characters from anime and visual novels etc will appear in my dreams and i have no fucking clue about how describe the environment, they are pretty unworldly. When i was young it drove me nuts. These days im used to this odd world in my head and i recognise its rules, every now and then it exists for a few weeks too long(yes my dreams typically last multiple days at least it feels like it) and ill wake up being extremely confused eg getting married and waking up being a free man. 

 

I too enjoy my dreams but well there is a lot of horrific stuff which happens in my dreams so it is truely living a nightmare.  Also i dont want to talk about a collapsing dream, its scary though a few doctors which i visit regularly(i imagine they think it can help with brain studies and the sessions are free so i dont care) basically they asked me to collapse a dream firstly i have no clue how to do that and secondly it felt worse then being stabbed.

 

id love to talk about this further but the world is spinning and it hurts to exist right now.

 

also try having a dream about doing revision, its the stupidest shit ever. nearly as bad as taking an exam in a dream.

 

Had a weird half-lucid dream...

 

In it I was a trainee for rangers/marines... was defending a bridge (bridge looks like something from the surface levels of black mesa) from terro attacks with an Intervention AMR and a G36...

 

successfully defend and commander in chief comes to congratulate... then plot twist since the commander in chief was in cahoots with the terros... and then I woke up...

Before I get to all the replies, I need to write this down before I forget it. 

 

My mind takes all the stories I know and puts them into one large narrative that barely, if at all, makes sense, and my goodness I love it.

 

So, I had some intense dreams last night. They made me go right back to sleep when I woke up, because, sometimes, the dreams continue when I do this. 

 

It's rare that I have intense dreams, remember them, and enjoy them. Even if, because they are dreams, they are ridiculous.

 

So, the first one was interesting. It was about a guy named Konan. He looked like a barbarian. But the story I saw unfold was weird. It was like I was watching a TV show that was made from a book or otherwise series because there was a narrator explaining things I didn't understand. 

 

TL;DR: Dude had a lover & daughter in his youth (20-25 years old). A la "Kratos from God of War" sort of story for that bit. His wife or wtv had a special power over the wind though, and ended up having to fight a large golden glowing gryphon with a flaming sword of light. They killed each other in battle in a city during a festival while Konan or wtv his name was (could've forgot it by now) attempted to protect the people from the ensuing chaos. His daughter dies as well though. 

 

Time Skip occurs. 

<This is just to skip over the fact that I don't remember what happened between the above and the below. I don't remember all of it, but I do remember the fact that I saw every part of the story.>

 

Somehow Konan is in his mid-late 30's now. This part of his story sort of ties to Dante's Inferno in that he loses his only other love to something that I can't remember, then journeys into what is basically Hell to kill it's "lost son" in his anger (so also Asura's Wrath... there are a lot of stories with this theme).

 

He does this because he is basically locked in his home by the aforementioned golden gryphon, who even he can't beat now. 

 

At times, Konan desires things to complete his journey, and some kind of mystical monks give up their gained enlightenment to make Konan's wish come true. I don't remember instances of this happening. Their enlightenment entails extreme amounts of luck, among other things. 

 

... Also, Konan is reminiscient of Samson of the Bible. Super duper strong and the kind of warrior that can fell armys on his own. 

 

Anyway, the dream ended when Konan considered going the opposite direction. Instead of falling into the pit to hell, trying to climb the "stairway to heaven". 

 

That was my first dream. 

 

I woke up. Went to sleep. Then had another dream. This one was sadder and personal. I'd rather not mention it beyond this.

 

Then I repeated that (woke up -> sleep). And had another dream. Which was fairly sad but enjoyable still.

 

It was like... Naruto, some remnants of the Konan dream, Shadow of Colossus, and Metal Gear Solid elements mixed together. And ofc I was the Main Character. 

 

It's weird in dreams. The characters were Naruto based. And, somehow, I remembered the entire story of Naruto in the dream. Made for some fun shenanigans. 

 

There were these colossal super power things doing things at what looked like that place Naruto & Sasuke fought before the time skip happened, but at that place, there was this huge mechanical "Big Shell"-like bridge. 

 

I know I'm forgetting a significant portion of that dream, but man, that one was fun, even if it was scary. People were dying left and right. So some Attack on Titan mixed in there I guess.

 

Overall, that was enjoyable. Wish I knew how to trigger such dreams. /sigh

 

All this talk about lucid dreams... I seem to get somewhat lucid (?) daydreams quite often, but not quite hallucinations (thank god...)

 

Normal dreams are a bit meh. They are often either me dreaming of a dream or me hiding from some people in dreams... Wouldn't exactly call the latter bullying-induced trauma, but thanks to them I am not exactly the sanest person there is...

I enjoy slice of life if I enjoy the characters. Characters I like and music I like are my #1 reasons for watching an anime. The music has to put me in the right mood for it. 

I didn't particularly like or dislike Hyouka's characters. Not sure why. I imagine part of the reason Fred loves it so is because he sees some of himself in Oreki. Characters you can sympathize with or wtv are great and all that. 

I guess Fred can relate to Oreki in certain ways...

Can't even keep the Debian repo package for fglrx updated. >_<

Time to grab the Ubuntu package for fglrx-updates & install that. Hopefully all goes well. Mostly, Ubuntu packages will work on Debian (unless dependencies are not the same on each). 

Everything else, so far, has spectacularly failed. What could go wrong?

Edit:

Didn't do the above. Instead, I updated my kernel from Jessie's default 3.16 to 4.10 via the backports. Then I was able to install fglrx-driver which is the 15.7 version instead of Jessie 3.16's 14.9 version. 

Huzzah. Let's hope this works (in the process now). 

Got no sleep tonight. Great.

Edit 2:

It worked! Sorta. fglrxinfo & glxinfo both give errors in command line, but aticonfig finally saw my GPU & made a config file that works (finally, mah 3440x1440 screen).
