How to connect 9 fans to motherboard

okay so I’m building a new pc and I’m wondering how would I be able to plug in 9 fans into mbo, they are the af120 Corsair fans white led, and my motherboard is an msi b550 tomahawk atx am4 with 8 4pin fan headers, do I need buy a hub because I don’t really want to buy a commander pro since they are non rgb, please help, please and thank you.

With 8 fan headers you can give 7 of the fans a dedicated header and then use a splitter to connect two fans to the last header. No hub needed.

 

Or am I missing some complication with your set up?

You can get a simple PWM splitter like this: https://www.amazon.com/Endlesss-Splitter-Converter-Computer-Extension/dp/B0881S5XGZ/

That way you can connect two fans to one header, so the other seven headers you have can be used for the remaining seven headers.

You can use cables which split each fan header into multiple fan headers.

You have to be careful not to exceed the maximum current on each header... assume each fan header is capable of a bit over 1A of current.

 

The page on Corsair's website says 0.13A current for the 120mm fans : https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/Categories/Products/Fans/AIR-SERIES-LED-CONFIG/p/CO-9050003-WW#tab-tech-specs

 

So you could safely connect 3-4 fans on a single header.

well those 4 fan splitters are 10$ and the ones you linked are 5$. with 4x of those that is 20$. andm ine with 2x of those are 20$ also. and you save some slots on the motherboard.

what? you are not drawing straight from to mobo. you are drawing from the headers. also those are for RGB only. not fan control

One "1 to 2" fan splitter is just the minimum needed, but OP can certainly choose what they feel like the best option is (including the best cable management option).

That is an RGB hub for Corasir RGB fans, so it wouldn't work for your purpose.

The only fan hub for fan speed (PWM headers) that Corsair has is the - as you mentioned - Commander Pro.

You can connect like 3 or 4 fans PER HEADER without issues. Connecting 7 to dedicated headers and one on a splitter isn't even close to a power problem.

That is an RGB hub for Corasir RGB fans, so it wouldn't work for your purpose.

The only fan hub for fan speed (PWM headers) that Corsair has is the - as you mentioned - Commander Pro.

Fan splitters suck. Use fan hubs instead. Fan splitter suck power from same connector and cause weird RPM issues and it's just not as it should be. Hub is powered by SATA or molex and fans get independent power, fan connector only supplies PWM pulse to tell fans how fast they should operate. It's just better.

If OP wanted to connect all fans to a single header for control then yeah, a fan hub makes sense (and  required for power reasons).

 

For 1-3 fans on a single header a splitter is totally fine. The header is designed to be able to power multiple fans if needed. A hub is just unnecessary cost and wires.

Hubs are cheap and you actually have less wires than with useless splitters in the front as you route it all to the back even with extra SATA cable. And they just work better. I wasn't talking about single header not being able to deliver power. I was talking single header isn't delivering power reliably to 2 fans in a way that they'll be working as they should. With Y splitters, motherboard thinks it runs 1 fan while actually running 2. I don't know specifics of issues, but I know there were because of this exactly. Also hubs are cheap on AliExpress or eBay and they work great.
