13 Year Old needs a job doing with computers! Please help me out!

WhisoGK99_Gaming

So I think I found the perfect gaming pc for $2000 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FRSQT1L/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?smid=A3QR4864ATM9Z9&psc=1), but am not sure how to get the money. I am almost 14, so does anyone have any job recommendations? I can do light video editing, and some light HTML/CSS coding. But is there a way to make money remotely for a salary for me who is a 13 (almost 14) year old male? I will take any recommendations into mind! Thank You so much!

2 grand for a 1650 super build? That is far from perfect.

Most companies wont hire you at 13 or 14. You can't legally be hired for a job at 13.

https://www.oshaeducationcenter.com/articles/child-labor-laws/#:~:text=Federal law states that 14,7am or after 7pm respectively.

You're better off going out, mowing yards for neighbors, cleaning up after dogs, weeding gardens... Anything you can find for neighbors or family.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Child labor laws, for a salary?  Not going to happen.  13 for light work (which will be part time), 15 for a full time regular job which could be salary.

At 15 they'd still be maxed in theory at 31 hours a week. 3 hours a day max on school days, 8 on the weekends. (3x5)+(2x8)=31.

That's not enough to get that much money. Sorry, but that won't happen. Get the cheapest PC you can get instead of dreaming with the most expensive computers out there. From time to time you can try and do some lawn mower here and there. Maybe get some groceries for the elders. But at your age? Not many things, really.

Thank You for not being hateful like some of the other replies, but I am talking about a job when I turn 14. In Georgia (USA) I can legally be hired for more hours.

Wait until you're old enough, which is not now.

By the time you are old enough, and have actually saved up $2k, there will be something better. Especially if you live in a base wage state.

Being able to legally work and having someone that will hire you are two different things though, something to keep in mind.

I wouldn't really plan on a job in tech that early.

Just a side note , the pc you linked is basically garbage , 2000$ for a system with an i5 and a 1650 super??? You could build that for 700$ at most ....ask for recommendations on this forum for good cheap pc parts ...

Good luck.

So I was in your position many, many years ago.  I wanted to upgrade my slow 286 to a then state of the art 486.  It was hard, but I did manage to find a part time job at 14 building PCs for a local PC shop. Back then, there were lots of mom and pop computer stores unlike now.   I recycled aluminum cans, I went door to door selling magazine subscriptions and greeting cards.

I always wondered what I would do nowadays.  A few suggestions

1)  have your parents sign up for an amazon mechanical turk account, and you can do the actual work. Usually its stuff like going over product reviews, or tasks that AI can't handle very well.

2) learn how to buy and sell.  Borrow some capital from your parents, scour Offerup and Craigslist for deals - like whole PCs that can be parted out, e-waste, recycled office PCs, old nintendo games and collectibles.  Go to garage sales and find some good deals, and then flip everything on eBay.

I'm not an expert! In fact I'm usually just 1 google search ahead of you.

Being legally allowed to work does not mean companies will be wiling to hire you. For most bigger companies like fast food places, although they are legally allowed to hire you, it is not financially viable for them to hire 14-15 year olds because there are a lot of additional labor laws and liabilities that apply specifically for those ages. Your best bet would be to either find local jobs in your neighborhood like mowing lawns, working on a farm, stuff like that, or trying to find a locally owned business, although those seem to be getting rarer these days.

You can get little jobs suitable for your age as others suggested, plus that PC is over priced you can can get a similar one for half the price.  Or you can get office PCs or workstations, some companies literarily throw them out when the upgrade.

I for example refurbished an HP Z400 for about 270$ and I can play Metro Exodus in triple screen:

You need to think of something along these lines. Upgrading / refurbishing a PC than you got for practically nothing should be fun for you since you like computers

To add to this:

Schools recycle fairly new hardware pretty often. (And mine is phasing out all of their current 3&4th gen i3&i5 systems right now). Gointo your schools tech office and ask if they have any systems they had that they were going to recycle, and off you could strip them down.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

so maybe check with ur school. otherwise, if you're good with repairing/building pc's and fixing phones, (I do this) do that. post it on craigslist, saying you repair phones/pc's. Start off with maybe relatives, then flip stuff off ebay (buy broken, sell as refurbished) then post an ad on craigslist, and word of mouth will take off (maybe not with covid, idk ur pov on that situation)

You're not likely to get an "official" job, even at a fast food place, at 14 - just the way labor laws work.

I agree with the poster above who suggested looking for odd jobs in your neighborhood or among your family.  Mowing lawns is a good idea.  In our neighborhood, people have their house numbers painted on the street curb, and there's a local kid who goes around with a stencil and can of spray paint and offers to redo or touch up curbs where the number has faded.

Johnny Foreigner from across the Big Pond From the East here. Commendable as your attitude towards work is, at your age you should be doing a whole lot of other things. Like roaming the neighbourhood with your buddies, looking for adventure and stuff, or talking to the girls to see if there's one special enough to want to spend your money on or anything else guys of your age are interested in. When I was your age, (long long time ago, like last millennium 😉 ) I'm glad I didn't went to work. You can work your entire life, probably 'till you're 70 or even older (assuming you reach that, crossing the tracks in front of a train doesn't help much so I won't recommend it 😛 ).

As for your next computer purchase, I'd recommend this one. Much more affordable for your age group and more important, it offers you the opportunity to learn the basics of computing by actually experimenting yourself:

Yes, it's not the latest SIIIIICKKKKK gaming monster, but then, it doesn't depreciate in value as quickly as that one either 😛

Please do not buy that prebuilt.

You could very easily build something much more powerful and much more balanced for much less.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

First of all that PC is bad for the money. If you are looking at that pc cause it looks cool,or cause your favorite streamer of youtuber usess it, dont buy it its not worth it.

Thinking that you will be cool in school because of that price tag is also wrong.

What kind of purpose is that PC for?

Gaming wise its a piece of shit for 2000.

To much ram for gaming(no benefit at that amount),to much storage, budget cpu and gpu inside.

Buying some brand cause you think is premium and it isnt is stupid.

Job wise,go mown lawns, clean cars at gas stations or something like that

https://www.amazon.com/iBUYPOWER-Computer-Desktop-Trace-9310/dp/B08FPL6S4Y/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=gaming+pc&qid=1611288624&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzT1pIVUE5UEtCN1pCJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNDAyNDY3MzBSVlVCV05GU0ZTUyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNDY5MjgxMk9ISU9YREpQUE9ZSCZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

This pc is better, and if you need you can buy another hard drive and 8 gb of ram more for cheap.(this was pc i found in 5 sec on amazon, there are even better ones for under 1000.)

8tb of hard drive and 2gb ssd is just to much for a gaming pc,maybe 10 years ago when people were downloading porn directly to their pc and created their own PornHub database then i would understand, otherwise no.

There is also some kind of legal liability as well. The kid could be working on something and someone's day gets lost. Wouldn't look great in a court having a 13 year old loosing data...

But definitely 100% on the labor laws.

@OP, I like your go getter attitude BTW. But for now, scrap together what you can and get some experience under your belt. 🙂 It goes a long way for when you get your first job.

myboy, i have never had a 2000 dollar pc in my life. Gaming on a potato is a rite of passage for the essential gamer. Work your way up the ranks, start with a potato, then buy a 650 dollar machine, then, when you ascend to the ranks of godhood then my friend get yourself a nice 2000 dollar pc that runs games nice and easy.
