Emoji C drive -

Can we get rid of this emoji? 😄

I wanna say it drives me nuts not to be able to type C : next to each other if I wanted to describe a file path.

For sure a stupid request. I could just use a space C or type it correctly 😄 (C:) - A: B: 😄😧 E: F: G: H: I: J: K: drive letter F: and so forth.

Lol. Why C and D, the two most common file paths lol.

Forgive my OCD.

Shrimp.

I'm in favor of this change.

If it doesn't get implemented though, a simple fix is using a zero width spacer.

Here on this website you can copy it: https://codepen.io/chriscoyier/pen/iLKwm

If you're using Windows (10), copy this character, press Windows + V, click the three dots and press Pin and it will always be there under Windows+V.

Kind of a hacky fix to an annoying issue, but gotta do what ya gotta do.

A "Zero width spacer" is a character in the text set used basically everywhere. It's a character that - as its name suggests - has zero width. It's basically an invisible space character.

If I type the letter C and then colon (:), it will see C + : = 😄

If I type C, zero width spacer, then colon (:) it will essentially see a space between these two, but a space that has zero width, so it's invisible to the user.

That way I can type C: without it turning into an emote.

I linked that website. You just have to press that purple button on the bottom of the website and you have that zero width spacer copied to your clipboard, to paste where ever you want.

What I suggested with Windows+V is to pin it to your clipboard, so you can easily recall it later (so you don't have to go to that website all the time.

I don't understand the site.

I type in the box C : right?

Then I clip copy.

When I pin, there's nothing there?

I have no clue anything about the code in the boxes above. At best I might be able to make my way around the developers console in CSS and HL2 lol.

just click copy on the bottom, ignore the code at the top. This copies a zero width spacer, an invisible character.

Place this invisible character inbetween the C and colon (:) and it now it doesn't see it as an emote, but two separate characters.

1. press that button on the website

2. Windows+V > pin (so you can use it later too) (optional)

3. Now press C > paste this character > press colon (:) and now you have C: without a space

Forum code is the way to go.  Pretty standard in most tech forums.

Lol :D

While I would favour a change like this and think it would be nice. Using the code brackets button thingy works fine. Also adding a backslash works.

Dunno how android (or iOS if you're a pleb) handles clipboard info. If it does the same way as windows, the above solution should work. If not dunno

Either @piratemonkey or quote me when responding to me. I won't see otherwise

@minibois There I go. That's not super practical, but it works. Pretty cool.

Honestly, I don't spend any time on any type of coding be it in a forum or otherwise.

Aside from modding a bios, or anything hardware related, this is not my cup of tea.

The C:\ drive also works I guess. Something I did think of if I where writing a complete file path.

It just looks better maybe like this C: vs C:\ and this one just doesn't work for me at all 😄 I mean C :

lol.

oh man.

I gotta wipe my 😧 drive.

C; ?

I mean ive never had an emoticon use the 😄 before. Afaik emoticons should start with : not end with it...
This emoticon should thusly be removed imho.

But if you gonna talk about a directory on the drive or a path, then yes as mentioned before use the damn fancy forum stuffs. :P

I've removed the potentially conflicting short codes from the list (most of the ones that start with something other than a colon), although it might be a few days to a week or two before that take effect here.

Thanks very much Colonel!

Happy to hear it's been changed 🙂
I was going as far as to think about silly fixes, like not using the regular colon, but rather one of the "alternatives" unicode provides, such as these:

˸, ܄, ﹕, ᠄, :, ︓, and ꞉

Source: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/160295/what-characters-might-be-used-to-substitute-for-colon-in-folder-names-using-a-ti

These could be used with.. various levels of convincingness. The last one looks best I think.

normal colon: C:

The first colon alternative: C꞉

Then on mobile you can just set a shortcut to your keyboard, so that (for example) "cdrive" would actually paste that alternative colon after the C.
