Samsung LU28D590D £500 4K monitor 60Hz

kuddlesworth9419

I think this is the first review out for Samsung's first affordable 4K monitor that doesn't suck. Dell had an affordable 4K monitor but it was bound to 30 Hz so it was a piece of crap. This comes in at a lower price and is 60Hz.

I will be buying this as soon as it is released. Howe about all of you.

Right now, 4K (to me) is more of a look at my e-peen/wallet item right now. And I can't even drive a 4K monitor with any of my poor rigs. But, if I did have a rig that could drive it, I might get it.

Main rig on profile

there is no way in hell i would spend $800+ on a tn monitor i feel like an idiot for spending $400 on a tn monitor which was when 1080p came out so stuff was expensive and i knew nothing about monitors then but i hate myself now its really really really big rip off i think its a terrible investment!

What's the point? 1440p monitor's are still pretty pricey and the majority of PC gamers can't run games at 1440p with decent settings. Can any gpu actually run games such as bf4/crysis3 or anyother graphically intense games at 4k (at high settings or above)?

My Build

It's £500 and has a good TN panel.

I would give it some time before purchasing 4k. I would need a way more powerful build to play games decently, but using it for basic web browsing should be good.

Didn't see any mention of what sort of panel they're using, TN or IPS? I'd consider it, but I'd also feel the need to pick up a second 290x and a new PSU for the extra power requirements, this would drive the cost up considerably.

I'm fine with 1080p for now on monitors, don't really feel like paying that much. There are no 4k 120hz monitors yet, so I don't even need to think about it. And I'm not buying a TN anymore, so give me an OLED 4k 120hz+ monitor for 500€ or less, THEN I'll consider going for a new monitor.

Before 4k is a reasonable purchase, a certain list of things need to be released. The most important one, is displayport 1.3.

The reason that needs to be release first, is fairly obvious.. 4k at 120hz+++.

Quite a lot of people want G-sync for them as well, but not really a necessity in my eyes, but neat to have nonetheless.

its like $900 Aud

Yea but everything in Australia is stupid expensive. This monitor is really cheap even for a 2560x1440 monitor over here in the UK. In the US is will probably be $700 ish dollars as the US usually get a discount on most hardware.

I would buy 23-24" 4K monitor for games. It will be sweet spot because you will not need AA and this will considerably increase your videocards performance. but because of that resolution i think full hd with MSAA 8x vs 4k no AA is same shit, but picture in 4k will be better than 1080p

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

Id still not pay over $400 for 4k tn panel and that is only because it's 4k!

Why not. What do people have against TN panels. IPS is really expensive. And you can get good TN panels. This TN panel is good.

Because tn panels are cheap and not worth that money ips panels really arnt expensive u can get an ips 1080p monitor for $150 and if u want a 2560x1440 it's only like $650 4k ips is like $1400 so that is a bit steep but it will come down in time and I'd be willing to wait for that for an ips panel.

I think i would just stick with my 1440p monitor for now. I don't like TN panels. I think my current rig should be able to play my games on it though.

How long will it take for 4K IPS panels to come down in price. Because the cheapest 2.5K panel I can find is the Asus one which costs £449 which is £50 less than this 4K monitor. The colours on both are very similar. You are also forgetting that TN panels have an advantage over IPS which is that they have much less response time. It is also easier to get a faster refresh rate on a TN panel compared to an IPS so if you wanted to wait to see a 4K IPS panel under £1000 you might be waiting for a while for one that doesn't have a 30Hz refresh rate. Probably.

I know the response and refresh rate is slower but on pc i rather it look better then for competitive I would use a tn panel on Xbox and I'm only waiting for it to be cheaper because I don't want to be a sucker for an early adopter I don't mind waiting if i get to eager I will probs just she'll out the $1400 for one.

The Dell monitor has a fully adjustable stand, more features, and better looking (I know the Samsung looks nice.. but if you look closely, you can see it looks like it uses a metal brushed aluminum casing, but we all know that it's the plastic cheap stuff, that looks like 1000x worse in reality than these 3D rendered pictures) also has an external power brick instead of being inside, and annoying vertical connectors, instead of horizontal

It look like this monitor sacrifice features for focusing more on faster internals to support 60Hz over DisplayPort.

Dells 28" is only 30hz @ 4k, so the Samsung blows the Dell out of the water.

Also ALL monitors should have external powerbricks. Makes the monitor slimmer, nicer to look at, no fat cable with lethal current on the desk, and no internal psu to heat up the monitor, causing retention and burn in on IPS screens.

Theres is NO upside to internal psu's on monitors.

Only on frame rates. Also, Dell's monitor wasn't aimed at gamers; it was meant for professional use.

An early adopter is someone who bought the 4K monitors that had price tags in the 10,000 of pounds or the £3000 4K monitors. £500 is really cheap for a 2.5K let a lone a 4K monitor.
