i agree. it's a good choice if it will be used for mostly schoolwork and if they don't want you to game all day. which i'm assuming is the case here and i completely understand.

Why do you need portability?  Get a laptop then.

Just because you have the money, your parents have an idea of what you need vs want, as well as a good handle on value most liely.

Make a case for what your friends have, Xbox, Play Station, etc.  Say you want a PC instead.  It can be used for school, internet browsing, watching movies so you're not in the living room (cuz what you watch and what they watch are different), as well as gaming.

First quote so people see you replies. Second tell them a gaming pc is a highly powerful normal computer and you will be able to learn various tasks on it. Also tell them a mac overheats alot.

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

Maybe also explain to them that a PC can help you with punctuation and proper grammar?  ;)

Just now, just that pc guy said:

mention the 2015 recall that macs had, the batteries would explode when charging (in some cases)

i doubt any exploded, i believe they were jsut faulty. and it only affected the 15" models iirc. like, that's a very specific thing to mention and it's from 5 years ago. it's only relevant to know if you are looking for Mac's on the used market.

how old are you? I'm guessing under 18. Honestly you probably wont. so what you do is, find a non-gaming PC that has the same specs, and get that.

well, any laptop does that's quite fast. unless you buy one of the thick laptops that isn't even a laptop anymore it will overheat.

they are referencing the fact that you are using a lot of abbreviations and numbers and purposefully misspelling words.

Well ya, but he can say that is why he is getting a desktop. Also it comes with the territory when you get a thin powerful machine.

can you ask them to explain why this is? because if you know about how PCs work, you know that it's baloney. "more tabs" is just how much ram you have, and portability is what size the computer is, so just build a tiny PC with a ton of ram.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Maybe if you're going to build one, you could say that you'll learn something in the process?

if your budget is $500 and you're buying in the united states, we could make a parts list, and your parents might prefer to compare it to Mac models that they wanted to buy.

yeah that's fair enough, but if the parents want the kid to get a laptop anyway then the overheating argument is invalid when compared to other laptops that are practical enough to use for school.

I'm more concerned about:

Your listening and comprehension skills

Money management skills

Decision making skills

Etc.

Bottom line, you're young and have absolutely NO experience as a parent and dealing with children.  There may be reasoning your parents have they aren't telling you.  And as a parent myself, I truly feel a child needs to understand on some level what they're doing and you're not just giving in to impulse control issues.

Kids see, they want, then HAVE TO HAVE or the world ends. :)
