The 5800x is a great CPU.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Most people don't like it since it's priced kinda high and you can spend a bit more and get a 12-core CPU.

Ahh, that's totally my bad.

I misread "Who says that it isn't? *unpopular opinion* Just because it's old doesn't mean it's better or worse than modern things." as "Who says that it isn't? Just because it's old doesn't mean it's better or worse than modern things."

Because for most people thinking about a 5800x, the 5900x can make just as much sense. People think it runs really hot and isn't worth the trouble.

I could also state it this way.

You don't need a D15 or custom loop or AIO for the 5800x

Apart from the over-zealous UAC and some other minor flaws there really wasn't a huge amount wrong with Vista if you had hardware that could support it.

The issues came when it was put on low-end or outdated hardware for which the new visual effects were simply too much, making the experience horribly slow and unstable.

Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Lots of people but it didn’t have anything to do with the usability of the chip.  The 5800 was broadly panned when it came out but not because it was bad mechanically. Merely that it’s MSRP (something that is irrelevant for consumers today) was too high compared to the 5600 and 5900.  5900s and 5950s are no longer even gettable so it isn’t important anymore.

And when you compare it to 11th gen the MSRP really isn't at a bad spot. It's in a weird spot where it's over priced for AMD(which I'm fine with AMD raising MSRP as they get more and more competitive. Here's your reward for that and here's a little bit more that hopefully helps fund R&D down the line), but under priced for Intel MSRP

Unpopular opinion of mine.

I've been playing through the Kingdom Hearts series for the first time ever.

I have the Story so Far collection on PS4, and 3 on Xbox One.  I'm playing through the games as they're listed in the collection.

I'm on Birth By Sleep right now.

Kingdom Hearts 1, story and characters and design gives it a solid 7 out of 10.  A lot of long time fans disagree with me on this.  They think it should be higher.  A lot of elements of the game haven't aged well though.  The final boss overstayed it's welcome also.

Kingdom Hearts 2, this one was great.  I loved it.  Blocking, or guard as it's called in the game, is basically useless though unless you can read the future of what the enemy will do.  As my friend put it, who's been playing the series for years, the blocking can be thought of as almost rhythm based.  Except you have to initiate guard *before* the enemy starts it's attack.  That's my only gripe.

So far with Birth By Sleep, it's fun.  Some things are a little wacky like how interacting with objects is moved from triangle to x.  And the new command menu and command deck takes a minute to get used to.  Guarding is actually usable in this game though.

From what I've been told by a lot of friends who've been encouraging me to go through the series, these are seen as unpopular opinions.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

I'm not sure if this is unpopular or not. But in my opinion, if I buy a computing device, be it mobile, desktop or anything in between, there should NEVER be additional hoops to jump through or any significant additional cost if I want to run my own code on it.

This is of course excluding taking the time to learn how to write acceptable code. But if I have a piece of software which the device in question has the technical capability to run, then the idea that I am unable to run it due to artificial restrictions is never acceptable to me.

Apparently the real jaw dropping tech is those combination convection oven/microwaves they use in places like subway.  Apparently they work so fantastically well there was this gigantic problem with fumes they couldn’t solve so the tech was abandoned till someone had the bright idea of applying automotive catalytic converter tech which made the things suddenly possible.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Roommate owns an air fryer, its giant, unsightly, loud, a pain to clean, and I don't think the result is all that much better to a convection oven. It is a glorified convection oven. There are some differences, but I think it is overhyped because it has the word 'fryer' in it that everyone associates it with a deep fryer that you see at fast food restaurants.

Microsoft should have never bought Skype. It could’ve been as popular as Zoom but almost no one knows about it today.

Also, the ribbon interface in Office apps since 2007 is an atrocity.

I don't think it could. As it was, Skype was fundamentally catering to a different era, when the concept of 'a phone call, but over the internet' was novel and exciting. They became complacent with being first to bring it to mass-market, and in so-doing failed to adapt to what consumers actually expected and allowed themselves to be overtaken by others.

That said I do think that Microsoft was bad for Skype overall. The classic example is replacing the nice lightweight clients written natively for each platform with a monster of an application written using Electron, the reason I think being nothing more than costcutting.
