Will my 2080 Ti still be able to play games at max settings in 3 years?

GamerBlake

Or does anyone know how long a 2080 Ti will still be considered a “good” GPU? 🤔

Im trying to decide if I should keep it or sell it for like $800 or something close to that and buy a 3080 Ti (or whatever Nvidia decides to call their top tier Ampere GPU) when they are released.

It should still be good in 3 years. A 1080 ti or a 980 ti are still good.

At 1080p? Without RTX, sure. With RTX? Probably not at 60fps (but that is even the case today).

But even at 1440p or 4K, I doubt you'll run into many issues in the coming years.

Ask AMD if they're gonna be competitive in graphics any time in the next 3 years, if not the 3000 series will likely last at least that long

I assume it will be a good CPU, as all top cards in each generation last for many years are viable.  The 1080Ti is still rocking 1440p UW nicely, for example.

Judging by your recent posts, you're having an issue with anxiety about your gear and have an underlying need for some retail therapy.  Quarantine getting to you, possibly?

If you want to sell the 2080Ti and buy something not even released yet, go for it.  I'd replace your 8700K before I did the GPU tho.

I figure you'll post a few more new threads about buying new items, why not list them here and we can get it all over with :)

the answer is no, 2080ti already isnt enough for 4k in some games. if there are more raytraced games in 3 years then that also means no...

i'm gonna go with barely a no, there are already games that won't run at 1440p/120 medium.

Also there are exception, a game like RDR2 runs differently from medium to high on what looks like emulated DXR without a on/off setting, it's also a single player/sightseeing game for most people, and the 2080ti comes nowhere close to running that game on high.

cb2077 will probably be another game that tests gpu.

Yeah I’m okay with that. I just wasn’t sure how long a top end GPU stays relevant before it becomes unusable for modern gaming.

I don’t know about that.

I have Resident Evil 3 remake and it just game out this year and I’m able to get 144+ FPS max settings @ 1440p.

Im referring more to games like that. Not so much the rare exceptions like RDR2 which is due more to poor optimization rather than the GPU not being able to keep up.

Its not worth the money...

A gtx 1080 ti still gives a fight to a 2070 super but actually we cant know.

I think that it will be relevant for at least 4-5 years. We cant really know what games will be super heavy or not but its the strongest gaming gpu on the market right now and im sure youll be good at max settings at least for 2 or 3 more years.

personally, i have a 2080 and this puppy is going to stay with me until its last fan spin

its really not worth your money to sell a 2080 ti for a 3080 ti

Well I was thinking maybe a 3080 Ti would be like $999 or something with 25% better performance. If I sold my 2080 Ti for say $850 I could pay $150 for essentially 25% more performance when the 3080 Ti comes out.

A lot of people were speculating that maybe the 3080 Ti would be sub $1000 like the 980 Ti and 1080 Ti were under $1000.

ofc it will, usually I change GPU and PC every 4 years..but probably you won't benefit with future technologies which I don't care.

A lot of people thought you can not play games nowdays with 4C/8T CPU but you can do that with even 4770 i7.

Dont worry, you are good to go...

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

ofc it will, usually I change GPU and PC every 4 years..but probably you won't benefit with future technologies which I don't care.

A lot of people thought you can not play games nowdays with 4C/8T CPU but you can do that with even 4770 i7.

Dont worry, you are good to go...

Well the last GPU I had before my 2080 Ti was a 760 and it was okay when I got it but now it cant even run the latest games at 60 FPS with low settings so I just don’t want that to happen with this card. 😬
